"Jundi" ("soldier" in Arabic) is an Iraqi dog adopted by the Marines here at Fallujah Police Headquarters. They seem to trust him, but I harbor suspicions about the dog's loyalties to local insurgent groups. That mutt has jihad written all over him. I've extended my stay with the Marine Police Transition Team (PiTT) advising the Fallujan Police in order to cover tomorrow's recruitment drive, a potentially important milestone in their mission. A forthcoming Examiner piece will broach analysis of the challenges and complexities of the political situation in Fallujah, and will be accompanied by an illuminating blog interview with a local Iraqi civil servant. Stay tuned.

Cute he certainly is, but I'd keep an eye on that pooch. Posted by: spongeworthy at January 9, 2007 10:20 AM Dog blogging from Iraq. Probably a first. Posted by: Flea at January 9, 2007 08:33 PM cute pooch but not nearly as cute as the dog the Marines managed to evacuate from Fallujah to the U.S. His name is "Lava" and he is featured in the non-fiction book "From Baghdad with Love". Y'all should chekc it out!! Posted by: P_G_S at January 9, 2007 11:04 PM "I harbor suspicions about the dog's loyalties to local insurgent groups." Posted by: m at January 10, 2007 04:56 PM Jeez, Marines and dogs. Even when we were overseas ~ Japan, Korea, Somalia in the 80's, etc. ~ our squadron (especially Ordnance for some reason) ALWAYS had a puppy within days of arrival. And always made sure said pup would taken care of when they left. Marines and dogs are like hotdogs and buns. Makes me smile, big time. Thanks, Bill. (Now, where's the hootch stash...) Posted by: tree hugging sister at January 11, 2007 10:17 AM Hate to be a buzz-kill but it is a violation of General Order Number 1 for troops in theater to keep pets. Please don't post any pictures of these good marines holding the puppy and please edit out the unit. Thanks. It "looks" like a healthy dog but that doesn't mean it is. The Air Force shot our mascot on Abu Ghraib as a vector control measure. Vectors are the little nasties that ride around on dogs. I don't want that to happen to these guys. Here's the GO. http://www.bragg.army.mil/1TSC/SUBS/General%20Order%201.PDF PS Reading it will give a fresh idea of what the troops really give up over there. Posted by: y7 at January 12, 2007 07:41 AM Bill, Very cool. I'm friends with one of the Marines from PTT and it's great to keep updated with all the guys and to see all their hard work. David DiGennaro Posted by: David DiGennaro at January 12, 2007 03:07 PM You should check with "Military Mascots" for your pup. bet they can help you if you want to bring that dog to the US!
