*** John Bolton will resign. I'm sorry to see him go, primarily because his departure spells an end to Goldstein's "John Bolton's Straight-Talking Mustache 'Regis'" series.

*** In the muddy political back and forth over who loves, likes, doesn't like, hates or patronizes the troops, the sentiments from the Bay Area still register loud and clear.

*** Blinded by Midwestern outrage, Captain Ed bemoans the unfairness of the final BCS rankings:

So what happened? Two polls shifted Florida above Michigan, despite a moderately effective win against Arkansas and a bye week for the Wolverines. Had USC beaten UCLA as expected, Michigan would have likely remained in third place -- but the coaches and sports writers decided to skew the polls in order to prevent a rematch of Michigan against Ohio State for the national championship.

Why? The one answer given, that no one wants to see a rematch, is simply ludicrous. Perhaps the coaches don't want to see one, but plenty of people thought the earlier game may have been the best of the year.

The "one answer" given?

I'll give you at least five. Ironic is the fact that Ed congratulates Notre Dame - a questionably talented program which trades more on its name than Paris Hilton - for winning a BCS berth.

Go Gators. Anyone know any good sports bars in al-Ramadi? And only ones with big-screen High Def please; anything else is primitive.

*** I saw Tenacious D last night at the Patriot Center. Part comedy skit, part broadway and all kickass heavy metal concert, Kyle Gas and Jack Black are legitimately talented musicians. Goofy lyrics aside, few bands play that well live. Their cover of the Who's Pinball Wizard gives the Who a run for their money, and the devil's song in their musical battle for Kyle's soul may be the most rockinest piece of metal I've ever heard. A fantastic, funny show.

I wouldn't count ole Regis out just quite yet. He was great before he was the UN ambassador, and he'll be great afterwards.

I'll stop when I'm damn well ready to stop, and not one second earlier.

It's a shame we don't have a true championship game this year, but I understand the wanting to see the cross conference match-ups over a re-match. We need more and better regular season games.

Sucks for my brother, he had alread bought his plane ticket to AZ.

Should be flat-screens and satellites, but I don't know about good bars.

The only reason Florida jumped over Michigan in the final BCS ballot was indeed some voters' sudden realization that "Oh, damn, USC shit the bed and it looks like we got a rematch. Better fix that." Otherwise, Florida would have jumped over Michigan after Michigan's loss to aOSU.

Neither of Florida's last two wins was very impressive (one over the worst F$U team in recent memory; the other a gift courtesy of America's Dumbest Punt Returner).
