Diplomacy really isn't all that difficult. Much of it branches from Charisma. Much of Charisma is etiquette.

If he must chew with his mouth open, the least he can do is not make the smacking sound.

I agree, diplomacy is based on Charisma, though I think the attempt should be done through roleplay instead of a simple roll of the dice. Failing that, hopefully there's a magic user in your party with "Charm Person" memorized. Or a spell that counters "Bush's Gaping Maw."
