Jurassic Duck

Posted by Dorkafork

By now you've probably heard about how paleontologists found fossils of galloping flesh-eating kangaroos and a "demon duck of doom."

A team from the University of NSW (UNSW) made the discoveries in three new deposits during a recent two-week dig at the World Heritage Riversleigh fossil fields in Queensland.

Unfortunately, that is not all the team did.

They were so busy thinking about whether they could clone a demon duck of doom, they didn't stop to think if they should.

So, who didn't ask for a really big duck?

The funny thing is, I bet you had that p-shop in the can for like 3 years, waiting and praying for your opportunity to use it ...

"Prof Archer said the flesh-eating kangaroos did not look anything like their modern day cousins.

"They were galloping kangaroos, they didn't hop," he said.

"They were also far more muscly than the kangaroos we know, with sharp sabre-like incisors and powerful forelimbs to help rip and tear their prey"

So they looked kind of like this? http://tinyurl.com/lj4dx

Yeah, I'm going to show this post to my grandkids someday.

Then again, I've listened to the sound file I made a couple of hundred times, and it just does not get old.

I'm just saying that it didn't earn you a free drink at the next RMBB.

My daughter just saw this and said, "Life found a way."

"Demon Duck" Were they referring to Howard the Duck?

The name of the image file tops it.

When I read the "Roo" description I thought about "Raptors"

"Prof Archer said the flesh-eating kangaroos did not look anything like their modern day cousins.

"They were galloping kangaroos, they didn't hop," he said.

"They were also far more muscly than the kangaroos we know, with sharp sabre-like incisors and powerful forelimbs to help rip and tear their prey"

Raging Roo Raptors
