The Reality-Based Community (UPDATED with Netroots Horoscope!)
Posted by Bill Led by ... an internet astrologer? Yet, not so long ago, he was called the Astrologer Jerome by some. Read the whole thing. Depending on your priorities, at best, Armstrong was a swindler that preyed upon weak-minded investors. Alternatively, he believes in the predictive power of Astrology. Goldstein finds that less of a problem than Armstrong's whitewash of his past: All of which, in and of itself, is not a problem per se—after all, some people throw their faith into religion, others into the stars, others into the idea that all of metaphysics itself is a sham—though it is certainly a dubious way to predict stocks, I should think. But it is a problem that once your analytical paradigm has been revealed, you begin trying to airbrush it out of existence. Using the "search and replace" function on your archives. I might agree, as this points to Armstrong as a huckster rather than a believer; but I can't help but assume that an astrologist as head of the progressive netroots movement might present its own, equally sticky problems, seeing as his political constituency is largely comprised of individuals that excessively pride themselves in rationalism, while really subscribing to an ideology of aggressive materialism complemented by its own unshakable political mythology. Nicely done Rhiel, nicely done: Tellling someone what they want to hear isn't a strategy. In the real world, it's often planning for doom. And it should be pointed out that, along with strategy, it's the fund raising to which he's gravitated. I find that rather curious, don't you? UPDATE: Apparently, he's a believer: "Hilarious - Uncut from the Nutroots' own astrologer." Tom Maguire nails the best one-liner: Putting The 'Moon' In "Moonbat" Posted by Bill at June 24, 2006 03:47 PM | TrackBack (2) Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsYeah, like I said at HA, these tools had a "Championing Science" panel at Yearly Kos. Doesn't that in itself make Armstrong's cute little belief system relevant? Posted by: Allah at June 24, 2006 04:04 PM Heh. Maybe Armstrong's site really picked stocks by Astronomy! Then it would be all scientifical and stuff. Post/analysis is still being revised, so might wanna re-read it in a sec. Posted by: Bill from INDC at June 24, 2006 04:05 PM In all fairness, given the average Lefties knowledge of economics, it only makes sense to turn to astrology. After all, you get rich by being lucky, winning life's lottery, it is all a just a game of chance you see. God, this is just too good. I seriously can't stop laughing. Posted by: B Moe at June 24, 2006 04:35 PM Allah, That's funny: Maybe someone should give Chris Mooney a call. "The Astrologer-cum-Democratic-hacks' War on Science". Posted by: j.d. at June 24, 2006 06:39 PM Heh. Pick up one of the latest McSweeney's and there is a pamphlet from the Nixon-Agnew campaign about how to help the party depending on your sign. I'm glad to see they're incorporating some ideas with precedent. Posted by: Foster at June 25, 2006 11:09 AM Also of interest (to me anyway), I suspect a fair bit of the right-wing that will laugh at this story believes in intelligent design; yet, Michael Behe was forced in the Dover trial to admit that if ID is a science, so is astrology. Posted by: andy at June 25, 2006 12:27 PM I won't let you dilute my mirth with needless distraction! Posted by: Bill from INDC at June 25, 2006 02:07 PM It doesn't matter if astrology is scientific, or true. It only matters if it is accurate Posted by: Dan Rather at June 25, 2006 03:10 PM Thanks for the special work and information! nokia6630 Posted by: brandy at July 23, 2006 07:17 AM Hi there!
