The Front Lines of Feminism
Posted by Bill Another reason to go easy on the generalizations about the "Islamic world," kids: KUWAITIS go to the polls next week to elect a new National Assembly, which will in turn approve a new prime minister and Cabinet. This is how intertwined governments, cultures and religions change: notably yet incrementally, and not with an impossible immediacy necessary to give pause to those loudly committed to illogically general and negative narratives. That's centuries ahead of its neighbors, though. Cast of the shackles of yesterday! Posted by: Feisty at June 23, 2006 09:09 PM I applaud the Kuwaitis for their incremental move towards equality for women. I shudder at Nigeria, Indonesia, Sudan, Somalia and even England discussing or moving incrementally towards sharia. Posted by: Bill Maron at June 24, 2006 12:34 AM Do they have some pressing need for social change when it comes to motor vehicle tires? What's up with the demand for radial reform? Poor tread-wear? Posted by: slotgun at June 24, 2006 12:57 AM Kuwait is, from a fundamentalist islamic standpoint, a radical nation, straying from the law of sharia. Also, they allow Americans on their soil (which I assume is holy ground to them). These are the two ideals that terrorists oppose, so how are they avoiding terrorist attacks? Someone should be studying their tactics. Posted by: Kevin at June 24, 2006 02:50 PM It will really suck to nuke them if/when we get hit again. Oh well, such is life.
