Pretty funny that Reuters actually feels the need to do that, I'd say. When sales of German flags skyrocket, so go sales of white French hankerchiefs and bed linens.

It is strange that Reuters needed to run that piece to "explain" that the Germans, who, after all, are hosting the tournament, are merely doing what all the other visiting soccer fans from all the other countries are doing in Germany this month: waving their flags, cheering on their teams, having a good time... basically acting like grand hosts for the world's biggest party. Saying "German society has changed because of the World Cup" because they are joining in the party time atmosphere is a seriously silly pronouncement.

Citing "some people" wondering and worrying whether it'll continue once the tourney is over and what direction this 'new found' national pride will go was weak; they should have pulled some b-roll of skinheads to better hammer that "Return of the Nazis?" nail harder into their viewers' skulls.

Seriously though, Germany is not and will not be a threat. At the first hint of there being an issue, Britian will make noises about her nuclear deterrent, France will ready her nukes. Russia will go right a head and nuke Berlin.
