Google news on Peralta and you'll find only a few items. You'll find more from around the time of the Battle of Fallujah but not much esle. Rafael Peralta doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry.

But my kids will know Rafael Peralta - I'll make sure of it.

That Star Trek thing is great!

Dean's post is great too, and he took it pretty easy on folks with his Biblical examples. Moses let the girls live at least. With Joshua it was all: "And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword."

When you compare religions, shouldn't you at least compare the iconic representatives? For Christianity and Islam, those would be Jesus and Mohammed. Let's see, how many heads did Jesus cut off? How many seven-year-olds did he marry? Oh.

It's not exactly rocket science to say that the New Testament modified the teaching of the Old Testament. That's kind of what "Old" and "New" are all about. And another point: Mohammed, unlike Moses and all those OT'ers, had the example of Jesus to go by.

A. When you compare religions, shouldn't you at least compare the iconic representatives?

That would be one relevant point of comparison, sure. As it is, that point of comparison does not negate the validity of other comparisons.

B. Perhaps Dean's argument relates to Judaism vs. Islam better than Christianity vs. Islam, though Christians pick and choose elements of the Old T that still have merit in a modern context.

And another point: Mohammed, unlike Moses and all those OT'ers, had the example of Jesus to go by.

Maybe Mohammed should have asked WWJD?

Light-hearted snark somewhat aside, Moses and the OT'ers may not have had the example of Jesus to go by, unless Jesus was God, then Moses et al. had already spoken with him directly.
