"Mideast dictators try to 'wait Bush out.' They may be miscalculating."

Must-Read of the day.

dorkafork butts in: He ain't kidding.

Hassan Abbasi has a dream--a helicopter doing an arabesque in cloudy skies to avoid being shot at from the ground. On board are the last of the "fleeing Americans," forced out of the Dar al-Islam (The Abode of Islam) by "the Army of Muhammad." Presented by his friends as "The Dr. Kissinger of Islam," Mr. Abbasi is "professor of strategy" at the Islamic Republic's Revolutionary Guard Corps University and, according to Tehran sources, the principal foreign policy voice in President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's new radical administration.

For the past several weeks Mr. Abbasi has been addressing crowds of Guard and Baseej Mustadafin (Mobilization of the Dispossessed) officers in Tehran with a simple theme: The U.S. does not have the stomach for a long conflict and will soon revert to its traditional policy of "running away," leaving Afghanistan and Iraq, indeed the whole of the Middle East, to be reshaped by Iran and its regional allies.

And on the same day Democrats come out in favor of "responsible redeployment". Ouch.

This is a great article which clearly represents the US's position in the world and the true importance of the War on Terror. The fact that these leaders are waiting on the US to turn over after Bush is not only a testament to the legitimacy of this war but also a reason why American's needs to get in the correct mindset here and stop listening to the defeatist Libs. The terrorist are scared, as they should be, so we can’t back down or show weakness. Iraq is a tipping point that these leaders are trying to stop. We can’t let them

It was a sad day when the rest of the world began to think that our nation's character was filled with cowardice, that we are unwilling to stay the course and see things through until the end. It will be a sadder day when the rest of the world is right, and we are a nation of self absorbed cowards.

In 1985 Soviet leaders quietly began telling journalists that they were resigned to 4 more years of Reagan but, since he was an "aberation".

The Soviet Union barely outlasted his term of office, yes.

Actually the Soviets declared defeat in 1988 when they exchanged Defence Ministers with us. Our Defence guy was Cap Weinburger.

Fortunately this is a very long war.

If the Dems embolden our enemies when they get elected they will not be able to elect a dog catcher for 50 years. Maybe ever.

It will hurt though.
