*** Florida Cracker reviews music videos from the 80's:

"Photograph"- Def Leppard
Did a young Joe Elliott ever take a screaming jump at me in slo-mo wearing a sleeveless Union Jack t-shirt, leather pants, and a jaunty neckerchief? Nope, nope, sadly it was just a video. Since this was one of the first videos on MTV, I'm saddling this one as being the beginning of the unfortunate "girls in cages" video motif. See, the girls have to be locked in cages or behind big wire fences (preferably topped with barbed wire) because that's how sexy the singer or band is. Get it? Well, theoretically, anyway. When later served the spectacle of girls having to be chained up because of their mad lust for John Cougar Mellencamp, I had to call bullshit.

I used to believe that I was sexy enough to require caging of womenfolk. Then it dawned on me that I was looking out, and it was no repetitive coincidence that the gals were all clad in the sassy shade of crisp khaki shared by Lee County Sheriff's deputies.

It was all still very, very hot, though. Mmmmmmmm.

*** The Commissar is evaluating Zeyad's evaluation of the situation in Baghdad ... darkly:

The shit is hitting the fan. And it is not going to be good. I fear it’s going to be like Zeyad writes, but a lot worse. There is no possible useful or potentially successful role we could play in such a conflict. What’s more, there is no way the Shi’ites (who dominate the government) are going to lose such a conflict. If “victory” is a democratically-elected Iraqi government that can stand up to the terrorists, then we are very near that point, and should begin thinking about what we are going to do, when we reach that point.

Personally, I find the situation to be so fluid as to resist confident analysis, though I'm still strategically optimistic. But in any event, it seems apparent that the Sunnis will rue the day when America disengages, as their insurgent faction opted for the strategy of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese, sans the majority demographics and requisite political backing required for eventual victory. Which is none too bright, when you think about it.

*** Sean Penn is an odd, angry man:

Hollywood activist SEAN PENN has a plastic doll of conservative US columnist ANN COULTER that he likes to abuse when angry.

Via Ace, who also has an Ann Coulter doll. Except instead of abusing the doll, Ace abuses himself while looking at the doll.

*** Cripes, there are more of them!

Hah.
Here's another about the Lee County Sheriff's office: My nephew was burning something out in the woods and got busted for arson. My dad went to get him from the sheriff's, and as they were bringing my nephew out front my dad called out "Jesse! Get your possessions."
Jesse hollered back "They didn't get me for possession, Granddaddy. They got me for arson."

Ah, so cute.
