Posted by Bill *** Netflix refuses to send me copies of "the 40 Year-Old Virgin" and "Cinderella Man," despite an eager placement at the top of my queu. "Police Academy 6: City Under Siege" and "Critters 3," however, came right on time. Now I know why.
Josh Marshall has devoted 14 of his last 15 posts to the topic so if there’s a scandal in there somewhere he’s bound to run into it eventually. Keep digging for THE TRUTH, Josh! He's like a 21st Century, bespectacled Woodward and Bernstein hybrid, a sort of transhuman "super-reporter," if you will. I see Kevin Spacey playing him in the movie version.
The most heated public moment occurred during McClellan's off-camera "gaggle" with White House reporters yesterday morning. It featured NBC's David Gregory, one of McClellan's most persistent inquisitors over the last year, who raised his voice while asking a question about the incident. Priceless. Later, as the cameras roll: "Let's just be clear here," Gregory said. "The vice president of the United States accidentally shoots a man, and he feels that it's appropriate for a ranch owner who witnessed this to tell the local Corpus Christi newspaper and not the White House press corps at large or notify the public in a national way?" Bless our Fourth Estate. Posted by Bill at February 14, 2006 09:50 AM | TrackBack (6) Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsSpacey's head isn't near big enough. He could certainly pull off the black turtleneck and Lisa Loeb glasses, though. Posted by: j.d. at February 14, 2006 10:36 AM The questions about Cheney are somewhat pointless, in my view. Funny story and as you suggested, great comedy fodder, but digging for a scandal isn't going to reveal anything, even if one existed, which I doubt. That said, I thought Scotty was out of order. He used his unique position to take a cheap shot. I do have to announce my bias here, I don't like McClellan; he is the shiftiest looking and sounding press secretary I have ever seen. But that's a personal thing. Posted by: Kav at February 14, 2006 10:43 AM david gregory is a hoot. one day he is just going to run up and jump scotty right there at the podium- "you are SO full of SH**!!!!" Posted by: milowent at February 14, 2006 10:45 AM That said, I thought Scotty was out of order. He used his unique position to take a cheap shot. Well, Gregory is a grandstander. To me, his constant voice-raising and sarcastic preening when he asks questions on camera abuses his unique position, so I'm biased. I see McClellan as more "consistently out of his depth." So I guess we agree that he's not very good as the public face of the WH. Then again, he comes off as more a a nice, poor sap than Fleischer ever did, who was slick, yet also reviled in many quarters because of his slickness. What a miserable job. Posted by: Bill from INDC at February 14, 2006 10:53 AM What a miserable job. Agreed, imagine the interview: Interviewer: So what are your views on being in the front line for all the shit that is aimed our way when people get upset with the decisions we make? Posted by: playah grrl at February 14, 2006 04:04 PM it is interesting to see the president and scotty were joking about the hunting incident today, and then the guy has a heart attack. oops. i assume the white house was told the guy was going to be fine. gregory is going to start ripping his own shirt off on camera now. Posted by: milowent at February 14, 2006 04:35 PM gregory is going to start ripping his own shirt off on camera now. Ha. Posted by: Bill from INDC at February 14, 2006 04:38 PM I get the sense the public seemed to much prefer listening to an eyewitness to the hunting accident. I particularly like how the local media was honored with the story, which I saw as a completely appropriate gesture. The WH press core is so over. They could barely conceal their fear and outrage over being shown up for the irrelevancy they've become. I hope the corporate media big shots are watching. It's a great time to cut costs and get rid of these harpy narcissistic clowns. Posted by: willem at February 14, 2006 04:43 PM Blockbuster is doing the same damn thing. I had three new releases at the top of my queue, all listed 'available now,' and what do they send me? A much older DVD listed well below them. Bastiches.
