Ok, Is It Me ...
Posted by Bill Or did 24 just take an allegorical political turn that makes me want to turn it off for the rest of the season? "We must make it seem like weapons of mass destruction are present in Central Asia ... as a pretext to increase our military presence and guarantee the flow of oil for another generation." UPDATE: Ok, Bauer just threatened to cut a man's eye out with a pocket knife in order to get information. I'm hooked again. ANOTHER UPDATE: Has anyone seen or heard from Dorkafork in the past couple of weeks? I fear that 24 Drinking Game may have killed him. Although I thought that was a kinda cool plot twist, myself. Posted by: Hiawatha Bray at January 30, 2006 10:11 PM I thought along with 'war for oil' was 'torture doesn't work'. Or did they shoot that episode before the meme came out? Posted by: jpm100 at January 31, 2006 06:20 AM Is it just me, or does it seem like they've run out of ideas? Also, if Bauer is going to continue to be the focus of future seasons (and let's face it, most shows don't last more than 6 or 7) then they need to get away from Los Angeles and CTU. What's wrong with Langley? What's wrong with field work in Afghanistan? Why does Los Angeles always get threatened with WMD? Posted by: Charles W. Stricklin at January 31, 2006 06:30 AM Why does Los Angeles always get threatened with WMD? Because it's convenient to shoot the show in Los Angeles, I'd imagine. I think we need a spin-off show, where Jack Bauer just runs around threatening to do horrible things to people, non-stop. Like one minute, it could be him hooking up a guy's 'nads to a car battery, while the next had him threatening to drive a plastic wine screw into a dude's head and "pop his lid like an effin' cork if" he doesn't tell Jack what he wants to know. I'd watch. Posted by: Bill from INDC at January 31, 2006 06:39 AM I think that's what he was doing during those months where he was "dead". That would make a great spin off. Posted by: Gordon at January 31, 2006 08:17 AM The "blood for oil" meme irritated me a little, but a mitigating factor is that the guy doing it was both freelancing U.S. foreign policy and kind of an idiot. There's actually a pretty good reason for "Why Los Angeles," and not just because the TV industry is based there. The key, as I read in an interview, is that *24* really needs to be filmed in a location with a fairly constant climate. They *could* set the show in Washington, theoretically... except that Jack Bauer's "one day" might include filming during the height of summer and during a February blizzard. Posted by: David C at January 31, 2006 09:59 AM I don't know - I saw the commercial 'How do you expose a conspiracy when the leader is the President's right hand man?' Who wrote that, John Kerry? Posted by: ICallMasICM at January 31, 2006 11:08 AM You're still watching 24? The sharks have been thinking of setting up an air traffic control network over their habitat!
