Posted by Bill A remarkably accurate assessment: It's been 12 years since you wowed anyone, and I think if you took the entertaining bits from every movie since then, you might have a two-hour movie: the first thirty minutes of Private Ryan + half of Catch Me If You Can (60 min.) + the first twenty minutes of The Terminal + fifteen-odd minutes scattered about Minority Report - 15 minutes for A.I. (and that's being generous) + another ten for the beginning of War of the Worlds = 120 minutes. I might call it 8 years and toss him bone on "Amistad", even if it's almost twice as long as it should be. The man's only made six to eight really good films and "The Color Purple" and "Schindler's List" are the only ones that have aged well. For every truly good movie he's also dropped turds like "Hook" and "AI" on us too. It's just that he's had a string of misses. I'd count Saving Private Ryan as a hit, but since Ryan the only major motion pictures he's done are: AI Blech!
