You Can Piss In My Ear, But Don't Tell Me It's Raining
Posted by Hubris Actually, I have to agree with Nancy Pelosi. Politics shouldn't be a part of Veterans Day. It's a time to come together, dammit. Yesterday's New York Times reported that President Bush met with Gabon's President Omar Bongo in May 2004, ten months after lobbyist Jack Abramoff asked President Bongo for $9 million to arrange such a meeting. Mr. Abramoff's offer and the size of the requested payment raise questions about what role Mr. Abramoff may have played in the scheduling of this meeting between President Bush and President Bongo. Bush begins his Veterans Day speech at 11:45 AM Friday morning. Pelosi's statement after Bush's speech: "On Veterans Day we should come together to honor those who have served in our Armed Forces. Instead, President Bush is using Veterans Day to try to bolster his political standing on the war in Iraq rather than honor our nation's men and women in uniform." Come together? Uh, yeah. Oh, I almost forgot... Howard Dean's press release from 11:34 AM this morning: Republicans in Congress need to put aside their broken promises and empty rhetoric about supporting our veterans and join Democrats in standing up for the brave men and women who have served our country. And Pelosi on Veterans Day in 2003: Because of Democratic pressure, the Republicans have put forward a plan, but it leaves far too many veterans behind. Under the Republican plan, two-thirds of our veterans still will not receive one penny of compensation for their disabilities. Democrats will stand for all of our disabled veterans and will continue to fight for full concurrent receipt, making sure that no soldier is left behind. Remember kids, keep the politics out of Veterans Day! Posted by Hubris at November 11, 2005 04:40 PM | TrackBack (5) Trackback PingsTrackBack URL for this entry: CommentsOUCH! Posted by: dorkafork at November 11, 2005 08:15 PM Fuck you dude, I ain't cummin' with Pelosi, together or apart. Posted by: B Moe at November 11, 2005 08:38 PM Anyone besides me upon hearing the bleating of these Democrats start thinking of the Paul Wellstone memorial as a glowing example of a hijacked occasion? Posted by: Jethro at November 11, 2005 10:09 PM I read the demand note from Pelosi and Waxman and my immediate thought was, this is what they will use to impeach Bush. Perhaps I'm a crackpot, but I don't think so. (Mind you I KNOW who the real perp was who used the White House for his own means.. and his initials aren't GWB.)
Posted by: TxMom at November 11, 2005 10:53 PM If it means anything... I heard, from someone who attended the Veterans Day speech, that he was surprised at how few Tobyhanna Army Depot employees actually attended, and that there were a lot of empty seats at the gathering. Posted by: Chloe at November 12, 2005 04:13 AM Does anyone know whatever happened to Hundred Percenter? Posted by: jeff at November 12, 2005 02:04 PM Hundredpercenter retired. In unrelated news, a (very scientific) survey indicates that in the time since Hundredpercenter's online activities ended, the intelligence and dignity of online discussions has increased by a staggering margin of a million-billion percent.* *Margin of error of a jillion Posted by: Adam at November 12, 2005 02:10 PM I hope some accident didn't leave him in a semi-vegetable state. Oh wait - he already was in one Posted by: jeff at November 12, 2005 03:01 PM He quit to focus on his job as ... a financial analyst, I believe. Posted by: Bill from INDC at November 12, 2005 03:27 PM I definitely want a shrieking hysteric for my financial analyst Posted by: jeff at November 12, 2005 03:45 PM Client: "So do you think that I've been monitoring my expenditures responsibly this month?" Posted by: Adam at November 12, 2005 04:36 PM There is a difference between sending mail and press releases out (as part of your job) on Veteran's Day, and making a political speech on Veteran's Day. Seems to me the president was the one who used the day for politicking. It's understandable that those being attacked in Bush's speech would respond. Posted by: umen at November 12, 2005 07:33 PM But if their priority was to avoid politicking on Veteran's day, then surely, they could have waited until the day after to start trying to score political points against him, right? After all, if making a criticism against those who you disagree with is what constitutes politicking when those who you disagree with happen, just like you, to be politicians... ...do you see where I'm going with this? Posted by: Adam at November 12, 2005 07:50 PM Let me rephrase that: After all, as I just said at length, if not getting political was really what mattered to them, then they wouldn't have engaged in exactly the same activity as what they were criticizing, now would they? Posted by: Adam at November 12, 2005 07:51 PM So a press release by Dean slamming Republicans over veterans issues is just "part of (his) job" and not politicking? Hmm, what exactly is Howard Dean's job again? Oh, yeah, chairman of the DNC. His "job" is by definition politicking. It's not like he has any constituents he has to look out for. Posted by: dorkafork at November 12, 2005 09:23 PM I thought Dean was the elected representative of the Magical Underground Kingdom of Stupid. Shows what I know. Posted by: Matt Moore at November 13, 2005 11:40 PM Are you sure that's not supposed to be Potlicking? It doesn't make much sense, but then again why should it?
