UPDATE: In the comments, B Moe asks if we have located the "new" definition of science written by the board. While I do not have access to the entire text as written, a reliable source has informed me that it will require "fancy" explanations of phenomena, so as to balance the need for a broader perspective with continued strict scientific standards. On August 9, according to Page 7 of the minutes, the Board approved sending Draft 2(d) out for external review. On the pdf of the Nov. agenda for Tues., Nov. 8, pg. 2 at 2:55pm there is the item "Receive report from external review of revised science standards" and "Approve science standards" and "You killed my master, die you dog!" And the one thing that I wish everyone outside of Kansas would keep in mind is that the MSM is no better at reporting this issue than they are about anything else these days. Is the school board making some rather hair-brained changes? Yes. Are the explanations of those changes that the media is reporting even vaguely related to the issue at hand? Not even close.
