Michelle Wie Commits Tragic Error In Pro Debut

By signing her card after the round on Saturday she'd certified that the score was correct. The score turned out to be incorrect so she was DQ'd. Bamberger, the SI reporter, didn't report his suspicion to the LPGA until 'late in Sunday's round' according to the USA Today article. While that certainly is wrong, it doesn't change the fact of Wie's improper drop. I do a fair amount of golf officating, although not on any pro tour. I'm sure if the LPGA officials had heard a question about her drop on Saturday they would have investigated before she signed her card. No decent official wants to DQ anybody. I'm guessing that Bamberger won't get too many interviews with Wie in the near future. His excuse (" [he] wanted to hear Wie's story before saying anything") is beyond arrogant.
