Pithy, Honest
Posted by Bill God, I hate Newsweek. It only grows and grows, my hatred, flourishing like an aggressive mycotoxic mold in the dark, damp crannies of my psyche. UPDATE: Baldilocks: Publishing a report on an unverified desecration of Islam’s holy scripture was merely a tool meant to undermine the military’s mission in the War on Terror(ists) and thereby discredit the war’s author, the president. But like many tools wielded by unskilled “warriors,” it missed the mark and hit the wrong targets: at least 15 Afghanis, now dead. Not even an "oops, we screwed the pooch." Instead, you get a "we regret that the pooch may have been mildly molested." Posted by: Roberts I took the free subscription as a gift from my mom. I rather enjoy getting my issue at the mail box, and then sitting down to read my favorite blogs, and finding most of the articles Fisked to high heaven. Posted by: j.d. I've been reading "The Week" (http://www.theweekmagazine.com/) and have found it to be the best weekly newsmagazine, bar none, and I've detected no bias, either way. Posted by: Jim H I too have enjoyed Newsweek, but this is too grave a mistake. We have invested too much in lives and resources, to have this magazine and much too often other major US media, just continue to feed the prejudices of Islamic Extremists, essentially giving them excuses to hate, hate, hate. This does no service to anyone. When I think of all the people, soldiers, aid workers putting their lives on the line, unselfishly and a hardship for their familiers back home, to just be "undone", by God knows what kind of "need" this media has. Is it to get the next shocking story out? The hold over of Viet Nam era self loathing? What purpose does it serve to any one, except those that just want to confirm how horrible we Americans are? I think the source should be named and showed be tried for the deaths because of this. And the reporter and editor should be treated as abetors. I am so completely furious about this, more than anything else from the Media since 9/11. I have emailed Newsweek and let my feelings known. I will never, ever buy another issue. Posted by: kioman "God knows what kind of "need" this media has. Is it to get the next shocking story out? The hold over of Viet Nam era self loathing?" I think this gets it right. The MSM is still lost in the 70s, when Watergate created a horribly flawed model of journalism, where the height of achievement was bringing down a (Republican) President through "investigative journalism." Having tasted that kind power, who in the MSM now merely wants to report news? Is it any wonder that the dinosaurs still doing this have lost the trust, and earned the hatred, of millions of Americans? Posted by: Redhand Just listen to the self serving crap that Newsweek columnists and editors have been handing out this morning trying to absolve themselves of any culpability for the deaths and injuries. Gag, puke! Posted by: Diana I can't remember the last time I was this PO'd about something. Even if it WAS true, are they so stupid that they did not realize what the impact on our troops and the GWOT would be. Posted by: handy Remember Kids, "Guns Don't Kill People. Reporters Kill People." Posted by: C.Y. Nice one C.Y. Posted by: rbj Trust me, liberals will ignore this & continue to rail against Fox. Did you see Robert Kennedy Jr's bizarro rant in Vanity Fair? He blames the right-wing media for Bush's victory, fulminating against Fox & AM talkradio. Never mentions Rathergate, Easongate, the notorious ABC news memo, or anything that goes against their ideology. And btw, there are an awful lot of Muslim SAVAGES out there Posted by: beautifulatrocities I read this: “ 'Based on what we know now, we are retracting our original story that an internal military investigation had uncovered Koran abuse at Guantanamo Bay,' [Newsweek] editor Mark Whitaker said in statement released Monday evening." And, having read it, feel I am Alice fallen in the rabbit hole. "Koran abuse?" Do you all get that-- we are investigating whether U.S. soldiers trying to end terrorism "abused" a book. Yeah, Muslims think it is holy. But would we get our undies in a wad if terrorists pitched pages from the Gospel of John in the sewer in front of Xian GIs, as opposed, to say, beheading them? Koran abuse. Bill. You are a pithy and funny guy, do something with that. Posted by: Mona Agreed, Bill; nothing less than actual hatred--and I think we all know how uncomfortable damp crannies can be. |
