Blog Regulation
Posted by Bill Of all the wacky examples of local governmental overreach to come from the Bay area, this may be the dumbest. Posted by Bill at April 4, 2005 08:20 AM | TrackBack (1) CommentsHow can this possibly be enforced? Perhaps these guys should take a look at the fiasco in Canada. Socialism can't survive in the fresh air and sunshine. Posted by: erp Every blog in Canada is wrestling with the consequences of a court order banning publishing details of some ongoing testimony. It is now looking like we cannot write about the rumours, link to American blogs writing about the rumours or even * name * the American blog that published the rumours. Trade you for some wack Bay area ordinance... Posted by: Ghost of a flea Yes, it's Humpty-Dumpty government in the City by the Bay: the proper sphere of government is what we say it is, no more no less. Posted by: Dave Schuler Fortunately Gavin Newsom has provided us with an excellent role model for civil disobedience (except he's too stupid to realize that civil disobedience is for private citizens, not elected officials) Posted by: beautifulatrocities There's is a bit of back and forth as to the real meaning of this ordinance. I've got a call in to the office of Chris Jacobs, the SF city attorney quoted in the original piece as saying the ordinance would apply to blogs. The ordinance, as written, is a mess. It does not make clear the status of blogs, although the way it reads could certainly be interpreted as including blogs. The demands placed on blogs are not entirely clear, either. The short answer is that this ordinance could be onerous, it is badly and unclearly written, and it should not be on the books. A vote is scheduled for tomorrow, April 5th. I'm going to try to be down at City Hall live blogging it. Posted by: Bill Quick ::::sigh:::: My youngest has been accepted to San Francisco State for this fall and she'll be taking her laptop ... Among all the other things I gotta worry about, I now have to warn her the Board of Supervisors will be looking over her shoulder. Posted by: Darleen When the state thugs come to arrest you for the crime of free speech, demand a trial by jury. I doubt that even the wackos in San Francisco would convict a person for free speech. |
