Humorous Item of the Day (UPDATED)
Posted by Bill Apparently, the Wall Street Journal's John Fund was rude at the CPAC Convention, snaking the computers of bloggers in order to file reports and/or check e-mail. But when blogger Kevin McCullough bizarrely turns one man's rudeness into some larger narrative about MSM disrespect for blogging ... What this is - is a total and complete disrespect for the medium of blogging. It is the actions of the self-superior "big media" journalists (be they on our side even) steam rolling over the pajamaboys and pajamagirls and not caring one ounce about the end result. ... methinks that he needs to return to terra firma. My advice for all involved: if someone takes your computer without asking, and you'd like it back, whether that person is John Fund, Karl Rove or your 12 year-old cousin Ricki, grow a spine and tell them to get lost. Or patiently grant them access. But don't (non-humorously) fume about it on your blog. Behold more of McCullough's moaning about Hewittian blogswarms on the matter: I know that this entire escapade is ridiculous. But the fact that it was perpetrated against the bloggers twice over a matter of hours and as he could have well learned his lesson from the first swarm written on the matter - it really served to reinforce my point. (Uh, emphasis mine) Is he for real? CHARGE, CITIZEN JOURNALIST! SLAY THAT UPDATE:
Posted by Bill at February 19, 2005 06:44 PM | TrackBack (2) CommentsA suit putzing around your laptop? Maybe not a shooting offense, but certainly, at a minimum, a verbal ass-whipping. I mean, my dang Amex account is on my laptop. You could charge up the world if you got lucky. I'd pretty much knock the snot out of anyone screwing with mine. Seriously, now. What kind of idiot walks up to a laptop and starts using it? But you might be right about the blogger outrage aspect of it. heh heh Posted by: Scott Chaffin In the pics, the row of laptops are all Macs, so I wonder if they were assigned. WHich still makes the move rude, but not a killin' offense. But nevertheless, you're right - if someone started using my laptop, I'd ask politely once, and then probably descend into violence, just as if it were my wallet. Writing about it as an offense of the dreaded MSM is just hilarious, though. Posted by: Bill from INDC Bill While I agree with you that Kevin is hyperventilating on the issue, I don't believe either Cox or Doverspa by not grabbing Fund by his suit collar and physically tossing him out of the Bloggers Corner after Fund ignored the clues that he was poaching is a matter of "spine." From Fund's boorish behavior, he was born in a barn while Cox and Doverspa were raised with manners (they decided waiting for the social nitwit to just finish and leave, rather than creating a scene that Fund wouldn't get anyway, was the better route). My only suggestion at any bloggers' row of the future would be not to leave your 'puter, even to step ten feet away to answer a question, without locking it. I know it's a hard habit to get into, especially when one has a certain amount of camraderie with your blogging neighbors but it would stop the "Fundees" from such thoughtless behavior. Posted by: Darleen There was a simple solution to this...simply ask Fund if he realized he was at someones private computer. Instead, a couple of bloggers decided it would be better to snap a picture and condemn him for being rude. Should we ask if Fund merely thought he was at a public "blogger" computer station? I mean...if I saw a bunch of laptops sitting there...with no users...would I think it was ripe for public usage? Perhaps... At any rate...quit taking pictures of the guy and call him out on it...real simple to do. At least all bloggers now know...if you go to public conference, don't leave your computer alone...without supervision or password protection. Posted by: Jeremy don't believe either Cox or Doverspa by not grabbing Fund by his suit collar and physically tossing him out of the Bloggers Corner after Fund ignored the clues that he was poaching is a matter of "spine." Well, I didn't really intend to comment on them specifically, I haven't seen them bitching about it. I was intending to lampoon the silly blogger (linked above) making some ideological case out of it, whining after the fact. But upon further reflection, in the time it took me to write this comment, I've come back around to the conclusion that if someone started using MY computer and shushed me when I told them to get off of it, I would pursue the matter, via telling them again politely but firmly, then making a scene or, all else failing, savagely beating them about the head and neck. And those that would sit there and let the guy have his way with their computer - taking the shushing - and then complaining about it later - are indeed a little, uh, strangely passive. But that's all just a wild hypothetical - something tells me that Fund was just oblivious, and a simple explanation was the trick. And as I said, my larger point is laughing at the linked post. "WE MUST BLOGSWARM THIS EVIL MSM DISRESPECT FOR THE NEW MEDIA! AN OUTRAGE!" Heh. Posted by: Bill from INDC Hmmm. WRONG! WRONG! wrong! I fear I must educate all of you in proper behavior. When attending a CPAC, or any other such gathering: 1. load a keystroke logging program. Now that's the right thing! :):) Posted by: ed No question about it, Fund's resignation is the only move that will appease the wrath of the blogsphere. By the time the outrage subsides, he'll be lucky if he can get a job working as a gay escort. And he can keep track of his appointments on his own damn laptop. Posted by: utron LOL! Posted by: Bill from INDC Mr. Spade agrees with ed. Note this from the link "hat they were still logged in - to the Dow Jones servers as an admin user for the Wall Street Journal." I would've taken that and posted/sent Goatse.cx to everyone I could. Now, that's CLASSIC internet right there. Posted by: Spade Fund says it was just a practical joke / misunderstanding. |
