When You Were Young and Your Heart Was an Open Book
Posted by Bill A delightful letter to the Boston Globe: Give peace chance at Super Bowl I was always a Yellow Submarine man, myself - though I'm unsure of its metaphorical applications to the weighty issues of war and peace. And via reader Richard Lyon, check out this Andrew Sullivan gem: "I guess this is becoming self-serving, but here's an email that makes me happy. It's odd that many emails I've received have said that I've helped people who were very conservative to see some good things about some "liberal" positions - like marriage rights, or torture, or fiscal balance (yes, the latter is now a "liberal" position!)..." In addition to "[T]hank(ing) heavens Mr. Sullivan ... found time to enlighten us before leaving for his hard earned European vacation," Mr. Lyon wonders when exactly (support for) torture became a "conservative" position. Obviously, Mr. Lyon hasn't been attending the meetings. Posted by Bill at February 9, 2005 10:15 AM | TrackBack (1) CommentsUnh - could it have had anything to do with the well documented antagonism between McCartney and Mr. Yoko Ono, or maybe Sir Paul felt he'd rather collect the royalties himself (oh, how capitalistically gauche! Uhg! you can almost hear the lefties whine) That's leftism for ya. EVERYTHING has to be a propaganda event. Please... Posted by: M. Murcek If a balanced budget is now a liberal position, then perhaps the Democrats hate the new budget because it doesn't have enough spending cuts. Posted by: Joe R. the Unabrewer Although, "Give Peace A Chance" would have been powerful if the beheading videos and WTC collapses were being shown in the background. Posted by: Joe R. the Unabrewer Oh, come now. "Peace" at a football game?? Isn't that a little - oh, I dunno - antithetical? Posted by: WoodysWoundup ...antithetical Sure, I'd say that's the why the letter is funny. Posted by: Bill from INDC So we're against torture now? Nobody tells me anything. Posted by: John from WuzzaDem 'And maybe like, the Patriots could change their name to the World Citizens....' Posted by: Jack Tanner darn those liberals! I didn't realize that marriage rights, torture, and fiscal balance were their issues. so what does that leave for anyone else? and does this mean they've traded in their platform of "Oppose Anything Republican" for rights to these juicy issues, which conservatives have heretofore held positions on? [can you hold a position on a position, or is that just fisking?] okay, I realize I'm just being perverse about the ill-phrased perverse. so don't vote for me. but the thing about having Paul McCartney - certified icon - perform is that it would be almost a travesty for him not to do his own iconic material, unless it were a full-length concert and it was a nice touch for the crowd to hear something new by the, um, icon... my real question is what Ms. Leahy does in life that makes this the priority about which to take up pen to lodge a protest, ex post facto. personally, I devote my time to protesting Chappaquiddick after the fact.
