That's Wicked Mean
Posted by Bill Jane's sick of the "-gate" suffix used to anoint scandals and likes an alternative suggested by INDC commenter "WMD." Posted by Bill at February 8, 2005 09:14 AM | TrackBack (6) CommentsI'm in, if I can just remember to spell -quiddick right. Posted by: tee bee as in, "Demoquiddick." maybe that's what we need to call certain intemperate-yet-audaciously strident party representatives... Posted by: tee bee I like the idea, except for the fact that the perpetrators of the original -gate scandal were all (mostly?) held accountable; heads rolled. Posted by: Dave I'm in for -quiddick. It's actually easy enough to spell. Plus q doesn't get used enough, time to make that letter work for its keep. Posted by: rbj Lord knows, "-gate" was beat to death about twenty years ago. I'm not crazy about "-quiddick" on grounds of euphony, etc., but I'll vote for it just because it's not "-gate." Another suggestion I saw back during Rathergate was "-palooza," which I think has some merit. "Demopalooza" nicely captures the probable tone of things during Dean's chairmanship, and it should resonate with the MoveOn segment of his target demo(palooza)graphic. Posted by: utron Since the tradition was to use a scandal that involved a president as material for the suffix, I am all for subsituting -sky for -gate. Memosky, Whitewatersky, Zippersky are much easier to say than with -quiddick. |
