"The Nuge" on Iraq
Posted by Bill In a radio interview, Ted Nugent waxes patriotic over his trip to Iraq: Well, it was a glorious celebration, particularly as life is good, bad, and ugly. It was the greatest of good, and it was the most gut-wrenching of bad and ugly, but the irrefutable conclusion is that good must hammer relentlessly - and good is hammering relentlessly - to eliminate the bad and the ugly, and the spirit, the soul, the attitude, the piss and vinegar, the fire, the passion, the American Dream firestorm of every man and woman of the Armed Forces, everybody in the Army, the Air Force, the Marines, the Navy, the Coast Guard, the National Guard, the cavalry, everywhere we went, playing acoustic guitars in some hell zone of a tent outside of Fallujah, sharing C-130s and Chinook helicopters with flag-draped coffins, it was an intense - I believe - y'know, I'm a pretty intense guy anyhow, but I've never witnessed nor felt deep in my guts an intensity of confidence and certainty that was fortified there like never before in my life, that the whole world sucks but America sucks less, and the more America can get freedom and liberty and a hint of these God-given rights that are guaranteed in our Constitution and our Declaration and our Bill of Rights - the more that we can bring that to people, the better chance they have of having a quality of life - most of them for the first time in their lives, so my spirit is soaring on eagle wings right now, and it'll never come down because of that experience. Whoa. Read the rest of the good excerpts. The guy is a trip. UPDATE: An audio clip can be found here. Posted by Bill at February 4, 2005 01:06 PM | TrackBack (3) CommentsI make it a point to try not to wretch whenever I hear Cat Scratch Fever simply because Ted understands something deeper than that song indicates. Posted by: Sharp as a Marble I love The Nuge. He can be as blunt as a lead pipe to the back of the head, but it's hard to say he's wrong. Posted by: Farmer Joe Man. Did he even stop to take a breath? Posted by: NukemHill No, I don't think he did. This'll show up better once I get the audio uploaded - I have a volunteer who's kind enough to offer server space and bandwidth for it. Posted by: Chris of Dangerous Logic OK, the audio is now available (many thanks to Frank of excelsiornews.com for hosting it). Links are at the update section at the bottom of my blog post. Posted by: Chris of Dangerous Logic LOL!! Close enough, I guess. Floyd (aka: Frank) :D Posted by: Fuloydo I should point out that the server hosting the audio files is connected to the net via a puny Business ADSL connection. I get about 600K upstream. 600K is fine for a website and message board but file downloads can kill it if a lot of people start going for a multi-megabyte file. We found this out when we, temporarily, had the new War of the Worlds trailer up for download. (A very nice Paramount lawyer asked us to please stop. :D ) So don't freakout if my bandwidth suddenly gets hammered and you have trouble connecting. Keep trying and you'll get there. Posted by: Fuloydo Oops, sorry about that. At least I got your name right on my post. Posted by: Chris of Dangerous Logic I LOVE THE NUGE! And, Marble, when I was in a certain regional band in the seventies, I was dating the girl who ran the lights, and she HATED "Cat Scratch," so whenever we played it, she slammed all the lights on red and went out to smoke a cigarette. Good times. Posted by: CraigC Great stuff! Posted by: George the nuge. ya gotta love him. he definitely is on the intense side. Posted by: mlah |
