The Inexorable Creep of Audience Erosion

aka One Man's Acknowledged Exercise in Irrelevance

John Redhed writes in to INDC this morning:

Re: You lost another reader

Not that you care or should care. Just an FYI.

Well, thanks for the heads up, John; it's probably for the best.

I mean, you should see my unpublished thoughts. A house of horrors, really.

Well, really, I've only been keeping one eye on your blog most days. I'll start keeping both eyes on it, now.

So, really, it's like you've only lost half a reader.

Well here's to let you know that I get your RSS feed in Thunderbird and read every last post. I am from NoVA, btw. I also get PowerLine and Captain's Quarters, but they are such prolific posters, I can't keep up with them. =)

Don't worry bill, I'll read you twice. Between me and Jon, it's like you've gained a half a reader.

Posted by: marc [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 11:25 AM

dude, you are such a tease. really, what was your offense this time? more invisible ID postings? or maybe he's confusing you with those Wizbang bloviators? what - it could happen.

Posted by: tee bee [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 11:28 AM

Perhaps if you looked under the sofa cushions?

If you find more than one reader there, you come out ahead!

And I say this as a person who has had TWO distinct readers of his (very infrequent) blogging - at least!

Posted by: Parker [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 11:42 AM

What is this "invisible ID postings" reference? Seriously, it escapes me what you mean.

I believe my offense was my spirited defense of Kid Rock, poncho-flag desecration and the rude use of the word "nipples" in the comments sesction below the post.

Bill, Is this a service one can subscribe to? I want to know when I'm losing readers too.

Posted by: beautifulatrocities [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 11:48 AM

It was my understanding there would be no math.

Bill, Is this a service one can subscribe to? I want to know when I'm losing readers too.

Yeah, but you have to pay extra for "why."

Posted by: Bill from INDC [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 11:51 AM

Hell, the use of the word "nipples" is the only reason I come back.

Posted by: Jay Allen [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 11:52 AM

Bill, it was just a [poorly done?] joke reference to Robert's curious comment under "A Startling Conclusion." I couldn't find any post by you on ID, so I labelled it "invisible". the wizbang reference is because they've been posting on ID, heatedly, which I am finding tiresome in its polarization.

bonne journée!

Posted by: tee bee [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 12:30 PM

AH! "Intelligent Design!" Until just this second, i had no freaking idea what "ID" was referring to. The Freudian ID, what? Now I get it.

No, I do not believe in intelligent design.

Crap, I just lost some more readers.

Posted by: Bill from INDC [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 12:50 PM

Well allllrighty then! I suppose, since Mr. Redhed is dedicated to being such a dick, I'll put your fine blog in my Daily Crawl. Been meaning to for a while, anyway.

Posted by: Mr. Bowen [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 01:00 PM

No, I do not believe in intelligent design
that cinches it. an invisible post, alright.

Crap, I just lost some more readers.
siriusly, I think everyone's numbers and comments are going down a bit [except for Jeff G. it's the Anna Nicole/Martha Stewart thing he's got going - people can never get enough of either].

probably it's just post-election stress disorder. or post-tsunami stress disorder. or post-rathergate stress disorder. me, I'm just insane. after the Kerry Kampaign, Rathergate, Kid Rock, HIV, Randy Moss, ID, the never-ending-fight in/over Iraq etc., there's no particular reason for blog-lurking these days, except amusement. and you are the pot o' gold today, buddy.

Posted by: tee bee [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 01:15 PM

I believe that without the presence of intelligence in the creation of the universe, we would not have rock-hard nipples today. The Intelligent Nipple Design by a Creator theory (INDC theory for short). And did I mention the nipples? Nipples, nipples, nipples. And also llamas.

Posted by: Fred [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 01:36 PM

And also llamas.

Llamas banging, even.

Posted by: Bill from INDC [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 01:42 PM

dangit, I was gonna mention the llamas. and orgling.

Posted by: tee bee [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 01:44 PM

crap. I posted without mentioning Jeff G. do I lose points for that? and can I make them up if I mention Jeff a second time? I love Jeff [gratuitous PW mention]. he's so outre.

Posted by: tee bee [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 01:48 PM

Bill,

I really like your website. I'm going to start reading you more often.

There. Now the universe is back in balance, and we can go on with our daily lives.

You're welcome.

For every action ...

Posted by: Bill from INDC [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 03:33 PM

Bill,

I'm never going to read this comment thread again.

Not that you care or should care. Just an FYI.

Actually, I might, but only once or twice more.

Not that you care or should care. Just an FYI.

Unless you do a lot of posting later, and this particular post is like two pages down, because I use a Trakball, and my wrist starts to hurt if I scroll too much. So I seriously doubt if I will read the thread if that happens.

Not that you care or should care. Just an FYI.

So, you're staying you believe in Stupid Design?

Posted by: BD [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 13, 2005 08:51 PM

No.

Posted by: Bill from INDC [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2005 12:24 AM

- Well somebody must believe in INDC.... intelligent nipples are a fact of life....they even let you know when you're cold....

- Bill - just be glad you're not CBS....losing one person would drop your viewership by 20%...

- BTW...your posting on KR was incomplete...you failed to cover the whole issue of "bunting"...
