Bill,

You may be interested in knowing that a survivor of the Hindenberg, one Ferdinand Lammot Belin, lived in DC. At the time of the disaster, he was a 24-y/o student, returning to the US.

As the story goes, he leaped from the burning Hindenburg and wandered around looking for his parents, who had driven up from DC to meet him. His parents, too, were looking for him, but finally gave up. He saw their car driving away and sprinted after it, finally catching them at the gate to Lakehurst Naval Air Station.

Belin went on to become an Admiral in the USN, and lived at "Evermay," a pretty substantial piece of real estate in Georgetown, near the corner of 27th & P Sts. He and his wife are deceased and I'm not sure of the status of the property these days.

awwwww, poor guy what a crushing blow.
Ok enough with the pity party, at least you made the A list!

On other topic-
Have you been following the Indy's Terence Blacker slam on bloggers as a form of “crazed egalitarianism” ?

"from their favourite blogger, no matter how mad, ill-informed and rightwing, rather than from a newspaper or the news on television."

The main discussion on Blacker’s article is found at Volokh :(http://volokh.com/archives/archive_2004_12_00.shtml#1102094586 )
And in depth at Scott Burgess’s the Daily Ablution: (http://dailyablution.blogs.com/the_daily_ablution/2004/12/indy_columnist_.html)

Some comments:
The uneducated internet reader would avoid consulting Professor Volokh’s site due to its reading comprehension requirements. For example, when the Volokh Conspiracy authors make continual references to legal terminology and cases; the implication is their audience is both highly intelligent and well-educated in history and global interactions. Furthermore, the Volokh authors persuade by the means of building rational arguments based on evidence, in contrast to poorly disguised opinion. Obviously, Mr. Blacker failed to make an attempt any research for his article, and instead relied on opinions gathered in coffee rooms. A serious deficiency considering most news professionals would consider adequate research a foundational standard.

One nonsensical opinion stood out in lights: Note Blacker's slimy effort to make a natural connection between the words "mad" "ill-informed" and “right-wing". This pattern is not an unusual occurrence, but the victim’s ability to respond is a revolutionary breakthrough in public communication.

On the other hand, the communication war is just starting; so beware of overconfidence.
Most Americans are relatively unaware of Blogger qualifications, outside of the current Blogger community.

Yes, many professionals are drawn to read informed blogs such as Eugene Volokh’s. However, it is still obvious that the majority of Americans are yet unaware of the professional backgrounds of top blog authors. Ask students, office workers or professional colleagues, and they will indicate surprise when told that many blog authors are experienced professionals with the training to conduct dependable research and the critical thinking skills to analyze its meaning.

Great analogy. This is a disaster. Horrifying, really. How can Rusty only have 2% of the vote????

All those voters should go f* themselves.

Bill,

I'm voting for you once a day just like clockwork. Of course I could vote more often, but that would mean I'd have to read Kos and accept their methods. Screw that! Take your ass-whipping like a man, because your friends are too decent to cheat for you.

I can't believe you're losing. I can't believe I'm losing...

-I found that rather curious myself.

Bill, $100 (or a spot on the blogroll ;-D) will buy you a campaign manager here who will work on consolidating the "anti-Kerry (spot)" vote. The rest of us aren't even close (yet...but everyone hasn't seen how Osama endorsed you both!), so...
