A Champion Goes Down
Posted by Bill Ken Jennings finally loses on Jeopardy: Jennings's skill left 148 challengers in the dust, some so awestruck they asked for autographs, others so annoyed that they bonded over the Internet. In the green room before playing, challengers tried to psych him out with voodoo dolls and dark references to Tonya Harding. His victories became so routine, so assured, that his wife, Mindy, did crossword puzzles while in the studio audience. It's remarkable that someone that easily absorbs and retains that much information isn't a stark, raving lunatic. That guy is amazing. That H&R Block question was kinda easy, esp for KenJen, ditto those doublej questions he missed. I'd pay to watch a pay-per-view Jeopardy match between Ken, that obnoxious dude from UMich law School who was a Tourney of Champs winner circa 1990, and that NYC firefighter who won the TofC a couple of years later. Those two guys could've racked up a 6 month winning streak too if they'd been able in those days. Posted by: Jim in Chicago That H&R Block question was kinda easy, I agree, that question was a gimme. Posted by: Bill from INDC Jim, you're thinking of Chuck Forrest. He and NYC transit cop Frank Spangenberg were the legends of Jeopardy season 3 (1986-87, I think). Jennings, Forrest, and Spangenberg. I'd pay to see that game. Posted by: Chris of Dangerous Logic H&R Block gave Ken free lifetime tax preparation. They gave it to the guy who got the question wrong. What about the lady who got it right? Posted by: kimsch Considering that she got the beatdown in her next game, I'm thinking that H&RB made the right call... Posted by: Chris of Dangerous Logic |
