No Surprise There
Posted by Bill AP: Iran Wants to Change Conditions of Freeze Iran is seeking a last-minute exception to its commitment to stop all uranium enrichment activities by demanding the right to operate around two dozen centrifuges, diplomats said Wednesday. I believe we've already covered this. Posted by Bill at November 24, 2004 01:18 PM | TrackBack (2) CommentsWhat really boggles my mind is that Iran is apparently using this agreement as a fig leaf to avoid retribution from the US when they're goal of getting nukes is realized. Does anyone believe that even Tony Blair's England would support us or Israel if we decided to take out Iran's nuke facilities now that this "agreement" has been reached? Iran is simply going to keep pushing the outside of the envelope of this agreement until it's meaningless. It's actually a brilliant strategy...playing on the reluctance of the rest of the world to deal with nukes in the hands of the mad mullahs of Tehran whose ties to radical mass murderers like Hezbollah and Al Qaeda makes a terrorist strike against us or Israel an almost nightmarish certainty. Posted by: superhawk Latest news seems to be that at the last minute Tehran withdrew its demand to exempt 20 centrifuges from its pledge to freeze uranium enrichment... I hope this news is correct. If it is - I think it may mean they are getting some cold feet. We can hope... Posted by: RonC more on Iran ending demands to keep using centrifuges... (Note: this from DEBKAfile - not the most accurate at times - but it is significant that Iran thus avoided sanctions.) "By dropping exemption demand for 20 centrifuges, Iran came away from critical IAEA meeting without a threat of UN sanctions. But the White House maintained right to unilateral reference failing verification of compliance" But, who really believes they won't keep using those centrifuges 24/7 - no one. |
