New Sponsor

Posted by Bill

Be sure and check out INDC's new sponsor, "Bet on Iraq:"

After years of trade sanctions, and rampant counterfeiting, the Iraqi Dinar has plummeted from its pre-Gulf War value of over USD$3, to mere fractions of one US cent. What was once the equivalent of more than $82,500, can now be purchased for around $50. Can Iraq's economy achieve, in a free market, what it once achieved under a brutal dictatorship? We don't know yet. But we know she is not alone in her effort to do so.

If you're interested in purchasing Iraqi Dinars as a curiosity or investment, check out their site and shoot them an inquiry. I can't personally vouch for their services, but I asked for more information on their organization and they provided me a seemingly legit IRS "Registration of Money Services" form, along with relevant names, phone numbers and a physical address. Consult their web site for more information if you're interested in betting on Iraq's success.

UPDATE: I've had several individuals e-mail or comment that this is a "scam" because they did research and found out that the dinars are marked up by 35-50% (depending on the contributor). I do not agree; it is a mark-up on a specialty product that most people would not even think of, for service that never requires you to leave your house and delivers physical dinars.

I have absolutely no problem with commenters offering detail or criticism about opportunities in the public comments section, but you must back up highly negative assertions about a business. Potential customers are encouraged to do their homework and make informed decisions that are best for them.

Bill,

I guess it could go unsaid, but if you decide to pursue this, let us know if everything is legit. The purchasing increments on their site are small enough that it gives me both good and bad feelings. My heart's in the right place, though; if legit, I would think very seriously about purchasing.

I think I'm going to make a small purchase and then do the math.

Bill,

I think you'd better hurry before George Soros buys up the entire inventory of currently available Dinars.

How interesting. Definitely arcane. Potentially a great way to play a constructive role in their national transition. Does anyone know how to vett this model via experts that are willing to be objective about the financial mechanics of this product's strengths and weaknesses?

Unlikely it would be as bad some of the 401k product that gets shilled by insiders. As long as it's just a risk and not larceny, what a minor risk it is compared to the risks assumed by our soldiers under arms fighting in Iraq on our behalf.

I'm seriously considering it; I can afford to lose $40 on it, if it's a scam.

I believe I have found the PERFECT Christmas gift for everyone I know. Iraqi Dinars! If nothing else, they'd be cool to have... give you a reason to hope for Iraq's success. And the extra bonus that $40 might turn into $66,000 or less or more?

I want Iraq to be strong and this seems like a total win-win-win. (Am I getting paid for this?)

CLARENCE -

E-mail me. You may NOT post a comment on my site labeling one of my sponsors as a "scam," when I do not agree with you. See update.

I don't mind the markup... I remember sites that sold single stock certificates from various companies, again at a huge markup from market value of the share itself. The idea was not to use it as an investment, but to have a piece of history. Likewise, people have bought & sold "historical" currency, where the price was way above the face value. I think this is a neat idea, and as long as actual, authentic Iraqi dinars are being delivered, I don't see this as a scam. I'm considering buying some to frame and hang over my bar at home, alongside my pics of Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt. I think it would be way cool.

Anybody is welcome to try to go into the currency market and get these things at closer to market value for the face, but I bet after one has totted up the price in time and commissions, the 35% markup doesn't look that bad. If you have connections to a currency trader, perhaps your overhead would be lower.

Your site, your rules, Bill, BUT...

I think it's an extremely ill-advised policy to ban negative comments about your advertisers. I urge you to reconsider.

Spoons,

I ban abusive comments about myself, other commenters AND the people that pay my bills. If the comments are objectively true, they stand. If they are slanderous and objectionable, they are deleted. This has to do with form and intent, not objective information.

Bill's good enough to provide his email for direct contact. If someone has a negative or damaging accusation to make about a sponsor, THAT is where the email should be directed. Please.

This site's sponsors are entitled to the benefit of the doubt; they paid to advertise here and should not be haphazardly subjected to flippant or recklessly disparaging characterization. To insist on this decorum is in no way an act of censorship but a responsibility that comes with taking an advertiser's money in good faith. I am grateful for this site and the sponsors that make it economically possible. And I, for one, will likely drop a little more than $40 on the new Dinars. If I can't be a millionaire here, at least I can afford to be one in the new Iraq! Thanks, Bill.

Having exchanged dollars for dinars years ago (and having a few left over) I can tell this exchange rate is a helluva lot better than what I paid.

I would like to know if anyone has actually bought any of the dinars from Bet On Iraq yet? Were you satisfied with how the purchase was handled? Did you receive your purchase in a timely manner? I am interested but I have to know a more before I make my final decision.
