Note to Readers

Posted by Bill

It's been a wild two months (years?) from the galloping charge of Rathergate to the muddy trenches of the campaign to Tuesday night's explosive finale, and I'm beat. Tapped. Spent. There are all sorts of topics that I'd theoretically love to discuss after Bush's victory - the state of the Democratic Party, the direction of Bush's administration, the media's failures and successes, recriminations, jokes, etc., but I can barely make out the computer screen through the haze of acrid smoke billowing from my ears. I sorely need a few days off, and I hope you'll indulge me with your patience.

November 2nd was a victory for many larger things, but I have to admit the selfish derivation of great satisfaction from the fact that blogs played an effective counterweight to powerful portions of a mainstream media run amok with dissonant ideology and willful distortion: CBS News, the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Newsweek magazine, and many others. George Bush's victory is a repudiation of an egregiously unfair old media paradigm and a win for the new guard, and I feel proud to have played a small role in the phenomenon. Congratulations and much respect to my fellow bloggers that exhausted so much altruistic energy this year, and many thanks to my wonderful new readers and commenters that keep coming back to INDC; I truly appreciate your support.

I'll be posting lightly and recharging the batteries over the next few days, but do make sure to check back often, because I've got some great material on deck and you won't want to miss it. A pleasant corollary to the Bush victory is a frantic uptick in moonbat migratory patterns and reactionary far-leftist behavior, and I plan to document the excitement with a series of posts next week. After the stress and gravitas of the last two months, it should serve as hella wicked cathartic fun for all.

Thanks for your patience and thanks for reading!

UPDATE: When I say "break," I just mean 3-4 days of light posting. Blogging is such an addiction that I'm sure I'll feel the need to post about something ...

Now it's time to savor.

Just wanted to thank all you for all your great work during this election. We couldn't have won without you and all the other great people in pajamas.

Posted by: shastarob at November 4, 2004 02:06 AM

Ya think Kerry was counting on those last minute electoral votes from France?

Alas, I guess it’s time to stop my daily rants and pithy comments about the hapless Moose and Squirrel.

This has been the most exciting and probably the most important election of my life time.
I have many memorable moments and observations.
And I would really like to hear what you will remember the most.
Here are a few of mine in no particular order.

1.) Rather-gate and the Pajamahadeen

2.) P–Diddy, Apparently Mr. Diddy has no teenagers of his own or he would have realized.
Young people are shonuff gonna show up for free concerts and kewl “Vote or Die” swag.
But stand in line for 4 hours to choose the next leader of the free world? BAHAHAHAHAHa , …attention span, duh !

3.) I found it fascinating that Kerry ran as “I’m NOT Bush” not realizing Bush was going to run AS Bush. . . perplexing isn’t it.

4.) Al Franken (insert any quote here or just repeat his name three times) ..see the misfortune of others IS funny.

5.) Moral Values issues on the ballot. I could concede gay marriage if my fellow Americans so choose, ..never if mandated by liberal judges.

6.) The fatherly spankin` Dick "Jedi Master" Cheney gave to the young padawan trial lawyer in the Veep debate.
If you listen closely you could even hear the echoes, “You don’t want to be vice-president.” . . . “No I don’t” . . . “You want to go home and rethink you life.” . . .“Y-e-s, I do”

7.) “You Know Where I Stand”, GWB at the RNC (I've never felt more proud to be an American)

8.) The utter filth of self loathing disgust Michael Moore felt at 5:00AM Nov 3rd after hearing Florida and Ohio being called for Bush and pounding down two dozen day old 7-Eleven jelly filled donuts. …damn I just made my self a little sick

9.) Zell Miller challenging Chris Mathews to a duel.

10.) Jibjab.com

11.) The mental picture of Carville & Begala manning the phones in a GOTV campaign for some city councilman down in Podunk Mississippi.

12.) The collective “OH SHIT !” coming out of every dank cave and terrorist haven from here to the Hindu Kush.

..can’t wait for Hillary in '08

I love that list! Very funny.

You earned the break - enjoy it! :D

Posted by: JoeA at November 4, 2004 05:22 AM

You and the rest of the Pajamahedeen did a great job, Bill. Great job. Deflecting the Rathergate slime job may have won the election for Bush.

Posted by: Paulie at The Commons at November 4, 2004 07:25 AM

Oh Bill...take as long as you need....You definitely deserve it, you've earned it. I'm experiencing a political hangover like I've never seen...and all I did was watch. You participated. And thank you, thank you , thank you, for playing whatever small part you played in getting our president re-elected. You did. We all did. (well maybe not AS). I'll be here when you get back....I'm hooked. Take care. BTW...I get to DC every once in a while...perhaps you could list a bunch of cool "Red" bars. I'll be in town next week and would love to buy you a drink somewhere.

Bill, you've done good work lately. If anyone deserves a break, it's you.

I'm looking forward to the moonbats, though.

Enjoy your rest - I recommend a trip to the Rathskeller in Dupont, get the most exotic sounding beer they have on the menu. (If they've got it, I recommend Samichlaus.)

I'll be here when you get back.

Thank you, Bill, for some wonderful coverage. Dean Esmay was my first and favorite blog. I discovered his blog just before the war started - and I discovered your blog through him.

What a refreshing thing it is to have alternative media.

I agree the blogs are a helluva phenomenon. My biggest hope is that we'll start seeing the same sort of revolution in the entertainment industry - movies, tv, music. As you can tell from my ad (Venomus Maximus) I really don't want anything to do with the people in that industry because they are so closed minded - even if that means making zero dollars at it and letting people download my music for free.

I want to say that maybe your beginning to see that in the likes of the Liberty Film Festival, Passion of the Christ certainly, I've noticed that the the Christian Radio station in my town has music that is artistically on par with the phreaks on the other stations etc..

But these are all still on the fringe essentially. Hopefully that will change over the next decade or so. But one things for sure - the blogs on the internet are really on the vanguard of this revolution.

I don't understand what you're taking a break from. From turning on your computer and sitting back while the Rove Blogging Machine wrote your every post?

BTW, I my secret internet password expires next week, so I'll be blocked from
"tuning in" just like the MSM.

You can sleep when you're dead. Now is the time to BLOG BLOG BLOG, Bill!

Today I am proud to call you my friend. I know you put a lot of hard work and many many many long hours into this. Thanks from me.

Well, could you send us all an email when you get back then? (Just kidding!) Enjoy the rest. I know exactly how you feel. Thanks for aiding my sanity over the last few dog months. Your first on my blog hit list.

You've done a great job. Enjoy the break. Thanks for all you did.

You've done a great job. I think after all the HARD work - you need to rest for a little while. But come back!

Posted by: Kathleen A at November 4, 2004 10:51 AM

You have been part of the revolution Bill. Keep up the good work!

Anyone who wants to witness/study/contemplate/laugh at some classic moonbattery while Bill recharges his cells, check out this link:

DanGilmorepost

Some background: Dan Gilmore is a technical commentator/analyst/editorialist, and has written for the San Jose Mercury News for years. He has spent the last few years researching and commenting on blogs, and has even written a book called “We the Media”. Its actually not too bad. You can probably find details on his blog somewhere.

I read his column and blog occasionally mostly for his insight and opinions on the blog world. He throws a few political jabs out every day or two. He claims to be a moderate Democrat (if he is, that’s a scary thought!), but IMHO, most of his political insight seems to be taken directly from The Talking Points Memo, F 9/11, etc. He is typically courteous and thoughtful in debate within his comments.

At first, I was shocked the tone of Dan’s post election comments (at the link above). Then I was blown away by the comments he received. This isn’t the DU were talking about here, people!

This is from a “moderate Democrat”, a well respected journalist, and his loyal readers. I don’t know whether to be amused or afraid. It troubles me on a certain level.

What goes on in these people’s minds? Are they certifiably delusional? Is this knee-jerk liberalism run amok in the fast paced information environment of today? Or could it be that I am so blinded by my biases that I just can’t see what they see? Am I deluded?

Interesting, fascinating. Check it out.

And as an unsolicited fund raising request, if you would like to help the world understand this phenomenon and its implications for the rest of us, please contribute to Bill’s Moonbat Research fund.

Take that break! :)

I'll take #9 on that list. Let me know when the tickets go on sale!

You've been brilliant since rathergate exploded onto the scene. Well done and well earned kudos Bill.

Posted by: mshyde at November 4, 2004 11:44 AM

Thanks for being here when we needed you, there is no doubt that the MSM would have hurt Bush far more than they did, or helped Kerry, however you want to look at it, without the bloggers to call them on their biased news coverage and outright lying. Hopefully, most bloggers will continue after the election, as we need this outlet badly. Thanks to all bloggers that contributed to the re-election of President Bush. I myself am glad to contribute to the pot. Keep up the good work.

Hey man, nobody can blame you for taking a few days off! ;-)

For what it's worth, here is my initial reaction to the whole thing.

Posted by: Watcher at November 4, 2004 11:53 AM

Thanks Bill.
And now there are reports denying Arafat's death (which means the end is near). November looks to be a pretty decent month.

Posted by: Robert at November 4, 2004 12:42 PM

Great work, Bill.

You've managed to cover several years worth of material in a very short period of time, and did so without ever selling out your integrity.

Your dedication to both informing, and entertaining, the public is awe-inspiring. I would, surely, have passed out from exhaustion months ago.

Please enjoy your well-deserved, and overdue, rest.

We'll be right here when you get back.

Posted by: jmflynny at November 4, 2004 12:57 PM

Bill,
I have faith that you won't be absent long, get some well-earned rest, and return loaded for bear. You've been an anchor in a media morass, and though gone only a moment, you'll be missed.

Posted by: Kathy at November 4, 2004 12:59 PM

Well deserved...

We appreciate your blogability...

You deserve a few days off. And to make you feel better and relaxed, or for just a smile, watch the Daily Show tonight. Yesterday it was F-ing hilarious to watch Stewart squirm about losing.

Look what I found to tide us over:

Moonbats!

I can't wait until the INDC Moonbat update! I NEED my Moonbats!

I think that everyone - the readers, bloggers alike, including the "big guns" owe a huge thanks to Matt Drudge.

He started the ball rolling 8 years ago. That's a generation ago in Internet time. He has built that page to the status that allowed the work of bloggers to recieve instantanious wide attention - which forced the networks to respond.

Without Drudge, none of it would be possible.

Posted by: Kate at November 4, 2004 06:03 PM

Bill: Nice flair, but I think you can do better. You want to be proud of your site don't you? ;-)

Posted by: Anonymous Scientist at November 5, 2004 09:34 AM

Hogwash, sir!

You have routed the enemy from the field! Do not give them time to regroup! You must pursue the fleeing army and destroy them!

Posted by: buzz harsher at November 5, 2004 04:27 PM

Bill: You need to improve upon your Breck Girl video. Make it great for 2008 because I forsee Edwards getting the nomination. He had good numbers. I don't think Hillary stands a snowball's chance in hell of winning the nomination. We Democrats have separated ourselves way too far from the Red States Of America. Hillary would make things worse. I shouldn't be giving you ammo -- I suspect you are in your evil lab right now cooking up some new video!

Posted by: Anonymous Scientist at November 5, 2004 04:39 PM

Thank you to bloggers. You guys may overtake "Talk" radio as the source of news for most Americans. Assuming everyone gets wired. In anyevent your work on RatherGate was outstanding.
