Tuesday Night Highlights (UPDATED)

Posted by Bill

"[E]ach side is selling like some carnival hawkers their version of what the reality is, but every citizen has to view that with some skepticism ... ... ... So, what are you telling me?"

Denial.

UPDATE: Video back up.

UPDATE: Another Rather video - enjoy Dan's moment of blogger paranoia! By the way, when Dan says "Kerry Campaign," it's a slip of the tongue.

Thank you I have been looking for the CBS transcripts any idea where I can find them. After being up all night I was infuriated when Leslie Stall stated something to the effect: Bush is playing hardball he is SUPPOSE TO WAIT TILL WE THE NETWORKS DECLARE HIM A WINNER in referencing the WH Chief of Staff's claim of victory. The audacity of Ms Stall thinking the President of the United States has to wait on CBS - first Ms Stall the President does not have to wait on you; second CBS is not the only show in town and in fact is the bottom of the media pile in my mind. Please help me find this transcript or video.

He couldn't let Tara go while there was a breath left in his body.

So you see, my dear Dan, you've abased yourself to no purpose.

Posted by: SarahW at November 3, 2004 04:21 PM

Here's what I'm telling you, Dan:

Just let it go and step down. America no longer wants you or, to be perfectly blunt, trusts you. You're a proven liar much like the president that you so dearly hold a candle for. For the good of your station and the greater good of America please leave.

Bill: Off the topic ... did you just update your favicon.ico file? I see a little picture of you in my INDC Journal tab (using Firefox browser). Ha, little Bill!

Posted by: Anonymous Scientist at November 3, 2004 04:39 PM

God, he was just trying to wriggle his way out of the numbers. What a pathetic performance. "Well, it is statistically impossible for Kerry to win, even with the provisional ballots, but lets not let a goose lay an egg. It still could be possible. We need to wait for Mr. Kerry to give us the go ahead to give the election to Bush."

Posted by: Jeff at November 3, 2004 04:43 PM

Prediction, Rather gone by the first of February.

Posted by: gibs. at November 3, 2004 04:44 PM

Thanks Bill, what a hoot. You may want to up "DENIAL" to 32pt fonts.

Posted by: Ron at November 3, 2004 05:05 PM

For some reason the link isn't working-I am getting one of those "page cannot be displayed" messages.

I assume it is about CBS though from the comments.

AS -

did you just update your favicon.ico file? I see a little picture of you in my INDC Journal tab (using Firefox browser). Ha, little Bill!

I don't know what a favicon.ico file is ... picture of me? What are you talking about?

Aaaawwww, I just went over to Oliver's and it's so dejected and quiet, I almost feel sorry for the chubby, little fel--hey! wait a second, what's that?- http://www.oliverwillis.com/trackback/1167

Screw it--give us more gloating!!

Posted by: TMarcell at November 3, 2004 06:16 PM

I want to see the little Bill!

While AS can probably explain it better, some sites have little icons that display in the browser tab and/or URL window. Instapundit has a little red and black radio tower, LGF has an, uh, lgf, etc. Somehow AS is seeing an icon for your blog, which is probably not yours.

This page seems to say that a user (i.e., not the site author) can choose icons to associate with a site, or they can use the one the site author chooses, or the browser will use the default icon (in my Netscape, that's a little green bookmark). Maybe one of AS's icons accidentally migrated from another bookmarked site without him knowing it.

Bill,

It's 4:15 here in Colorado (after you've posted the Link is down advisory) and the link worked fine for me. (using IE 6.0)

Posted by: A fine scotch at November 3, 2004 06:19 PM

RatherBiased got greenlighted on Fark and their server is down, most likely from traffic. But I was able to view the video from this link. Just shameful. Rather can blather on all he wants about what CBS's "official opinion" is, but it's just sad to see that he simply didn't want to face reality.

Posted by: Kimberly at November 3, 2004 06:27 PM

THe link is now working (for me at least it wroked). Wow, is all I can say. He almost seemed to want to roll over and kick and scream. I hope they give him a gold watch and a resignation letter.
GIVE DAN THE CAN!

Posted by: Steve-O at November 3, 2004 06:33 PM

It was painful to watch. Except that it was so funny.

Posted by: m at November 3, 2004 06:38 PM

That was almost sad. It was like watching a slow-witted child try to explain to mommy that the hamster really was'nt dead...it was just resting. Sorry Danny, Mr. Fuzzy's not coming back.

Posted by: Bud Tugley at November 3, 2004 06:56 PM

Oh Man,

I stayed up way, way to late last night, but just watching ol' Dan squirm and bumble was just too much fun.

Thanks Dan, for contributing your 2% to Bush with RatherGate. Who knows, maybe we couldn't have done it without you!!

And a very heartfelt thanks to the SwiftVet/Pow group for at least another 2% (how much more is anyone's guess). You guys stuck it out no matter how foul the LLM!!

Posted by: EricR at November 3, 2004 07:05 PM

Oh man, this is TERRIBLE!! This is actually much worse than even CNN was. At least James Carville had the decency to admit it was over when the situation in Ohio was obvious.

Posted by: M. J. Wise at November 3, 2004 08:30 PM

Rather getting testy in his interview with Ohio Sec of State was even better. At Scylla: http://scyllacharybdis.blogspot.com/2004/11/rather-spittle-at-blackwell.html

Posted by: Winemaker at November 3, 2004 08:30 PM

I was up and saw that. I thought what the hey, when did the official win come from the news media? Ms Stall looked like some one lost from MTV.
Flipping over to CBS while Kerry and Bush made their respective speeches ol man blather looked like a deflated gas bag. :)

Posted by: mshyde at November 3, 2004 08:52 PM

Rather Schieffer: The Over the Hill Gang. What ridiculous things they have become in their golden days. The clip was so painful to watch I could hardly stand to finish it.

Posted by: willem at November 3, 2004 09:13 PM

I never realized he was that upfront with his bias. How does this man have a job?!

Posted by: Hollywood_Freaks at November 3, 2004 10:54 PM

What's even worse is what Walter Cronkite has become. O'Reilly played the clip of him on Larry King saying that Karl Rove was responsible for the Bin Laden tape. I hadn't seen it before. He certainly looks like a decrepit old man blathering inanities. Reminded me of Pierre Salinger near the end.

Posted by: kent at November 3, 2004 10:54 PM

I have been consistantly surprised at the, almost blatent, efforts by CBS and the NYTimes to get Kerry elected. The hard cold reality of Bush winning was difficult for some in those media to accept, and we could all see it in their demeanor.

Posted by: Joe Everyday at November 3, 2004 11:15 PM

I don't watch CBS News. In fact I don't watch any national TV news programs. So I never would have seen this, if you hadn't posted it.

I have to tell you, it was one of the best laughs I've had in a long time watching Dan Rather struggle with the reality of a Bush victory. Absolutely priceless!

Thanks for posting it.

Posted by: antimedia at November 3, 2004 11:19 PM

On the foxnews crawl they had this:
"Good news for stem cell advocates..."

Its cool how they shorten "embryonic stem
cell research" to just "stem cell".

As if there's this group of people who wants to go around eliminating all spinal cords in the country.

Posted by: goober at November 3, 2004 11:47 PM

I just watched the videos.

I know why the "alleged decision desk" didn't call Ohio for CBS. They were attempting to prolong Dan's life. If at that moment they had called Ohio, Rather would have had a cerebral hemorrhage and died, right there on alleged national television (alleged because the only people watching were in Boston).

I haven't had any desire to watch CBS News, but I'm afraid that we are going to be subject to the video when some piece of news out of the new Bush cabinet (lot's of rumor's, don't believe the exit polls) is going to actually physically kill Rather when he tries to report it.

(Headline CBS: "The economy continues to grow at an amazing rate, possibly as a result of the Bush economic model..." and then his face turns purple, and his head explodes.) I sincerely hope they retire him before anything bad happens to him.

Posted by: Thad O at November 3, 2004 11:50 PM

With the exception of watching Dan Rather during RatherGate, I haven't watched CBS news for 20 years. Folks, you don't want Dan to leave CBS news. As long as he is there, the lack of CBS credibility will remain front and center.

Thanks for the hilarious post.

Posted by: Dave at November 3, 2004 11:54 PM

I'm so glad I didn't see that as it was happening. My head would have exploded.

Posted by: Beka at November 4, 2004 01:38 AM

Ghost of a flea -- I noticed the same thing about Ms. Stahl. Her comments were every bit as amusing as the Dan Rather "paranoia" moment. Someone needs to get video of Ms. Stahl's petulant indignation up on the internet, too.

Posted by: Salt Lick at November 4, 2004 11:10 AM

Yikes, talk about your flat earth society.

Have to say watching that boob flail about comes a strong third in the most relished moments category (after 1. Bush wins, 2. Daschle gets punted)

Courage, indeed.

Posted by: 2BrixShy at November 4, 2004 01:57 PM

So, what are you saying, Bill? Really, let me get this straight...what are you saying? I am being serious here, Bill....just what are you trying to tell me?

haha....I wonder if Rather is still trying to "figure" it out
