What Will You Do?
Posted by Bill Boyd asks a great question: How will you comport yourself over the next four years? Give it some thought. Posted by Bill at November 1, 2004 11:30 PM | TrackBack (1) CommentsOsama bin Laden lives. He has threatened terrorist attacks on any Red State. Will you make peace with this killer? Your vote makes this decision. Half of this nation supports our President. Yet, half wish "For Peace in our time." A noble ambition but it did not work for Neville Chamberlain it will not work today. Peace is earned with sacrifice. You cannot negotiate with Osama bin Laden. He must die or be captured. Give in to Osama bin Laden and some day he may tell you when to rise each day, when to pray, and what you will think. Have the terrorists’ insurgents that kill our soldiers in Iraq threatened our nation on our soil? No, they do not have the men, the material, the strategy, or the funding. Osama bin Laden evaded our military not because of out sourcing but because he is a superior opponent with the funding and resources to evade the most sophisticated technological fighting force in history. Hitler and Saddam Hussein abused drugs and alcohol. Both were megalomaniacs with psychotic delusions. It took five years to defeat Hitler and over a year to find Saddam. Osama bin Laden does not have these vices and he is not insane. He is just a killer. This is a World War. It is not Vietnam. We must finish the liberation and restoration of Iraq. Our Military Forces want President Bush to see this through to the end. This is their choice. Will you deny them? Those that have given their life deserve this hard fought peace. And yet what is your reply? Are you on the front line? Your vote must reflect our nations support of winning this War. We cannot and must not change our Commander in Chief. We should respect the wishes of those that are on the front line. Do the right thing finish and this War. Let those who are fighting and dying have their say. Your vote is your voice. Posted by: Volunteer State at November 1, 2004 11:40 PM The problem with this question is that it has to be asked. Certain comments have been made that include "if we lose this election we will make this country ungovernable by Christmas" (the quote is not exact, you're welcome to correct the exact words, but the message is a clear threat). If the party I am supporting loses the election in a fair and honest method, or is determined to lose the election by a clear authority, then I will gleefully spend my time blogging all the stupid stuff that they do, right up until the impeachment trial. If the above conditions do not exist, then I will spend my time attempting to find legal ways to punish the guilty, and redeem the innocent. I will go out on another limb, and declare that if the party I support is shown to have violated the letter or the spirit of the election process, in such a fashion as to alter the outcome, I'll be spending my time, while awaiting the impeachment trial, attempting to find legal ways to punish the guilty, and again, redeem the innocent. If, however, everything goes as I suspect it will, it will not be close enough to steal, and life will go on, very much the same as it has for the last four years. I really hope that's true. For everyone's sake. Posted by: Thad O at November 1, 2004 11:40 PM Whew. I'm not sure. I know what I hope I'd do, but... I don't know. How do I support a President that I vehemently oppose, that I worry will bring the war here, rather than keep it there? Do I support attempts to have him removed from office (legally, thank you very much)? Do I work towards getting the candidate of my choice elected next time? Support opposition to him in the Legislative branch? I don't know. Posted by: Noah D at November 1, 2004 11:41 PM I imagine I will be regularly appalled by the actions of the president, whoever that may be, and so little will change. So for the next four years I suppose I will comport myself with much the same dignity as I do now, which is very little. Posted by: Mantis at November 1, 2004 11:42 PM If Kerry wins, I will take great comfort that he will be the lone Democratic presence in the governmental triad. I will take great comfort knowing that a divided government is a government that stops spending my money hand over fist. And finally, I will take great comfort knowing that Hillary will be pissed that she'll have to wait until 2012 before making a run at the presidency. 2012? Yeah, cause Kerry will be a one term wonder whose ineffectiveness will make good old Jimmy Carter look like (J)engis Kahn. And, in 2012 she'll have to run against a Republican incumbent where she'll find her hopes for presidency finally dashed against cold ironic rocks. Posted by: BG at November 2, 2004 12:03 AM I will continue greeting each day as a fresh opportunity. I will remember to give the other guy the opportunity to do the right thing, no matter who the other guy is. I get to vote every year on issues and people large and small, and I will continue to do so. I reserve the right to be continually astounded at the choices we make, but each day is still a fresh opportunity. Posted by: Terry J at November 2, 2004 12:05 AM I'm not sure about the next four years but right now a little election eve humor might be in order. Posted by: Walt Anthony at November 2, 2004 12:13 AM I will continue greeting each day as a fresh opportunity. I will remember to give the other guy the opportunity to do the right thing, no matter who the other guy is. My, aren't you just a little ray of sunshine? Feh. That said, I'm going to do the same thing as Terry J, but I'm going to be all bitter and cynical about it. "What's that John? Your Iranian policy wasn't a complete disaster? Well, let's give you a big round of applause then, huh? *golf clap*" This, by the way, is how I started out with Bush. I have to point out that, in my personal life, I regard each new day as a sparkling fresh opportunity to screw up beyond all possibility of recovery or redemption. So whatever happens, I've trained for it. Posted by: Angie Schultz at November 2, 2004 12:22 AM bin Laden did not say he would attack red states, you fucking idiots. get your shit straight. al-qaeda hates our foreign policy not the man who sits in president's chair. and, they dont hate freedom. bush is a fucking joke and anyone who supports him is a mindless, worthless waste of life. Posted by: you're an idiot at November 2, 2004 12:32 AM You're assuming we'll SURVIVE the next 4 years. If Kerry wins, I fear that NYC may be hit by a dirty or a nuclear bomb. Posted by: Sydney Carton at November 2, 2004 12:44 AM "they dont hate freedom." Yeah, that's why Afghanistan was such a liberal paradise before we invaded it and toppled the Taliban. Liberals - apologists for terrorists. There's a campaign slogan that'll win you LOTS of support! /sarcasm Posted by: Sydney Carton at November 2, 2004 12:45 AM Good words to live by. Posted by: Abe Froman at November 2, 2004 01:16 AM Al Qaeda hates people who don't capitalize. Posted by: Noah D at November 2, 2004 01:45 AM You're An Idiot: Well, yes, bin Laden did in fact suggest that he WOULD bomb red states. You really should research your topics a bit better. In any case, I do have a link to a site that will finally answer all of your questions, including the burning question, 'Why do Republicans not understand me?! How can they possibly not understand and support John Kerry?'. I encourage you to visit it, it is of vital importance to you. Posted by: bkayel at November 2, 2004 02:07 AM If John Kerry wins, I'll say a prayer for our troops and the Iraqis who were hoping for a peaceful democracy because they ain't going to get it. There will be an upsurge in violence to force the whaffle king to turn tail and run. It won't take long. John Kerry turns on world opinion and could care less about Iraqis, as he didn't care one wit about the millions of Vietnamese his lies killed or the American POWs that were left to languish and die in Vietcong prisons. I'll say a prayer for our country, too. With John F'n Traitor Kerry as our Commander and Chief he'll bring the war on terror home. Posted by: Melvin at November 2, 2004 02:58 AM Goodness, nothing like a little politics to get people's blood pumping. If Bush wins: Of course dissenters will complain that is what voting gives them the right to do. To paraphrase Mel Gibson whose opinion brightened my day..."When the Dems and the GOP only give you lemons, vote for the lemon of your choice then squeeze them into lemonade." George W. (no relation!) Posted by: George W at November 2, 2004 03:00 AM If Kerry wins, I shall wish the Americans the best for their future, although their country will have reached that inflection point that all democracies reach at some point. Like Britain in 1946, if America elects Kerry in 2004 it shall make that almost imperceptible shift toward becoming a third-rate world power. While American culture will continue to have influence -- just like Britain gave us the Beatles and mini-skirts -- it will descend into meaninglessness and will be in 2050 where Britain is today, a former superpower whose ability to shape world events will be nil. Posted by: Mr. Mike at November 2, 2004 03:11 AM Wonderful question. I will immediately cancel my sub to The New York Slimes and send the sub money instead to bloggers like you, Bill. There are some terrific potential local conservative candidates waiting in the wings. I'll work for them. Increase my efforts to support the security and well being of Israel. I've never been more convinced of its importance in the world.
Posted by: dulce at November 2, 2004 05:39 AM Regardless of win, I am changing my party affiliation to 'I'. Many people are voting for Kerry for other reasons than the WoT. Most people don't listen to the debates or read the papers and just vote R or D because it's what their parents did or whatever. I don't see it as weakness on us Americans if Kerry is (*shudder*) elected. But I do fear others will. Posted by: Sharp as a Marble at November 2, 2004 06:39 AM Wonderful question. I will immediately cancel my sub to The New York Slimes and send the sub money instead to bloggers like you, Bill. I'm Bill from INDC and I approve that message! Posted by: Bill from INDC at November 2, 2004 07:16 AM Humn, if Johns win, I will keep a running tally of everything he/they promised, and make sure I drive it STRIAGHT home to every liberal I know. Including the promise to "get" OBL. That's my long-term plan. Right now, I just can't see myself carrying on with dignity. I will pray extra hard every night for all the men in uniform, including my bil who is heading to Iraq in January. Posted by: Carin at November 2, 2004 08:17 AM Either way, bourbon. And LOTS of it. Posted by: El Jefe at November 2, 2004 08:54 AM If Kerry wins, get ready for a stream of "It was Bush's doing" whenever anything bad happens. My goal in life will be to counter this argument at every opportunity. Posted by: j.pickens at November 2, 2004 09:00 AM I will be gracious in victory. I will be humble in defeat. I will not challenge the results of the election...assuming it's decided by a reasonable number of votes. I will not claim "the only way the other guy could win is by cheating." I will remind the winner that if he gets 271 electoral votes that is NOT a mandate to govern from his base. If the other guy wins, I will hope that the world is able to separate it's hatred for the Administration (a hatred which is widespread...even in our allies Britain and Italy) from the basic decency of the American people. I will hope that if Bush wins, they don't say "F You!" and leave us to our own devices in Iraq. If Kerry wins, I will hold him accountable for his promises. I will hope that the Republican Congress doesn't turn this into another Clinton Administration, when they shut the government down based on personal slights. Posted by: moebius at November 2, 2004 09:49 AM If Kerry wins I'll be a goiter on the body of American journalists for the next four years. Posted by: greg at November 2, 2004 10:27 AM If Bush loses, I'll accept that • We failed to get the message out Posted by: jeff at November 2, 2004 10:34 AM Seems I voted against interest. If Kerry wins I'll sit back and wait for the bennies. He'll probably cut and run--people are getting SO tired of this war thing on TV after all--and shift the money to bribing us aging baby boomers with free health care & drugs so we won't lose our precious homes to medical bills. Watch yer backs, Gen X'ers, big sellout on the way! Heh. Posted by: bloviatrix at November 2, 2004 11:04 AM My wife is the ultimate security mom: totally apolitical until the last year or two, she used to make fun of my rants about "that huckster Clinton". I finally shut up in the face of ridicule and silence when, lo and behold, she tells me in July that she's sending a donation to the RNC. Hell, *I've* never done that. Last night, after watching Fahrenheit 9/11, she told me that if Kerry is elected she will do whatever it takes to get a Republican back in the White House in '08. I think there is a revolution out there that the polls are missing. In the quiet of the voting booth, people are going to make the pollsters look foolish. My wife is one of those people. Posted by: Tongueboy at November 2, 2004 11:20 AM Good words to live by.You're Abe Froman? The sausage king of Chicago? . Posted by: bueller at November 2, 2004 12:33 PM 'they dont hate freedom.' except for women, other religions, people who don't accept sharia. You made a mistake on your dumbass handle you should have started with 'I'm' Posted by: jacktanner at November 2, 2004 03:12 PM This is a tough question for me. Generally speaking I believe that the office is to be respected even if the office holder can not be. And essentially that hasn't changed. I have put up with Carter and Clinton in my day and was offended when my conservative friends spoke roughly or were gross in their disrespect even though it was meant as a joke. However, in this case I simply can not overlook the deficiencies of the office holder. Kerry isn't even worthy of being a citizen of this country, much less its leader. The man is a lying traitorous coward. And because he is these things he will do great harm to this country. He does constitute a domestic enemy. And I took an oath as a young man to defend this country from all enemies foreign and domestic. So I must in good conscience defend the country from this fellow should he come to power. By defense I mean that I must avail myself of every avenue afforded by our wonderful system of government to see the man removed from office as soon as possible. This includes writing my representatives, airing my opinions to the broadest audience that will listen, catching Kerry's antics and broadcasting them via my blog and perhaps organizing groups to see the man removed. These actions will not be done in a vacuumn but as responses to the gross errors that he WILL make and the excesses he WILL take to himself. I love little dogs because they can be quite ferocious even though they are small in stature. Ankle biters that sink their teeth in and don't let go even though you bat at them and try to brush them away. I am an anke biter and I intend to continue as long as their is a reason to do so. In my book, that would be every day that Kerry remains in office. Posted by: Scary Kerry at November 2, 2004 04:44 PM I plan to, some time in the next four years, look up the word 'comport' in the dictionary. I'll probably do some other stuff too.
