That's going to leave a mark until well after the election.

And it *should* leave a mark. I think the left has lost its collective mind. Millions who have never known democracy now get a solid chance to practice it, to say nothing of the improvement in the condition of women in those countries. It baffles me that Kerry could actually say 'we can't impose democracy on them'. Well we did, and the only ones complaining are the out of power Taleban and Baathists. W should be being hailed as the greatest liberator of modern times, instead he's in a race so close that we're all on thether hooks awaiting the outcome. Unbelievable.

Andrew collapses under pressure. That is his problem. When there is no pressure, he can see clearly, and make those statements. As soon has HE has to make a choice, the pressure is on, and he fumbles. If you read his idiotic comments on the debates, he was actually SWAYED by them. Logically, he knew Kerry's ideas were idiotic, but he "felt better" because Kerry "looked Presidential." I'm sorry, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson would have lost those "debates" if "looking Presidential" were what you were supposed to vote for. Andrew only uses his intelligence when it's not decision time.

If he were so "undecided" until the debates, he should have abstained, instead of letting his idiotic opinion (it's idiotic if it requires "looks" to conclude) actually force the country one way or another. I want nothing more than for Bush to win, but I'm abstaining, because I can't bring myself to vote for his federal education plan, and his non-endorsement of eliminating the income-tax. But I'm not voting for Kerry because he "looked Presidential."

Does anyone mind if I post a dumb question? I'm relatively new to the blogosphere. I see all this mention of Andrew Sullivan. What's the big deal about him? I know he was editor of New Republic. What's all the fuss? He seems like a typical gay leftie to me.

He was a heavy, early supporter of the War on Terrorism as an important, monumental struggle but angered a number of people, including me, for abandoning his adherence to it. In the meantime, as he changed policies (for reasons you can guess), he labeled anyone that didn't follow his gravitation as *takes a deep breath* bigotfascistracistsexisthomophobehatemongerduncepartisanhack as well as many other adjectives I don't care to remember.

He's also the reason many of us started blogging so I guess it's personal in a sense although we're finally developing that emotional detachment you get with the drunk uncle you used to like until he did that thing you try to forget during Thanksgiving.

I used to read Sullivan's blog on a daily basis and was impressed that a gay man was willing to overlook the Republican position on his lifestyle because he thought the WOT trumped other issues. Then he lost his mind over the gay marriage question and thinking became a foreign concept to him.

Wrong, Bill. People like Reynolds are Sully's reason for living, because they take his blathering seriously. Like Paris Hilton, he loves attention of any kind.

He's never had a coherent worldview, claiming to be an Authentic Conservative™ while insisting gays can only feel validated & accepted by Big Govt bestowing the sacrament of marriage on them. His writing has never shown much psychological awareness, & his public FMA meltdown was like watching an awful tape of someone's private psychotherapy histrionics, except without a trained professional present.

In his hissy fits with Wretchard & Steyn, he's increasingly out of his depth. He's not even a good writer, his prose only showing signs of life in snippets on the blog, where he escapes the funereal pomposity he learned at Oxford, & which flattens his essays like roadkill.

But any mention by Instapostit brightens his day, because it means he's IMPORTANT.

When Andrew took August off in (Nantucket? Cape Cod?) it was basically his boyfriend, et al., putting their finishing touches on brainwashing him. Personally, I find the War on Drugs to have had a much more corrosive effect on our civil liberties than the War on Terror, which is why I've always voted Libertarian. Unlike Sully, I've recognized the need to put down some important ideas in order to deal with the Islamofascists. Pity than he went off the tracks.
