And ... Another Radio Affiliate Drops CBS
Posted by Bill Bartlesville, Oklahoma: Embattled CBS anchorman Dan Rather's afternoon feature on a Bartlesville radio has been yanked off the air, at least for the time being. KWON Radio Station General Manager Kevin Potter made the announcement this week, saying that Rathers' "questionable fact-finding and news reporting" during the presidential campaign has "irritated" radio listeners across the country and that Bartlesville listeners are no exception. We should have a running tally. Posted by: Robert at October 6, 2004 04:45 PM How many RED STATE radio stations does this make now? We should have a running tally. Don't bother! Posted by: postit at October 6, 2004 05:05 PM What? No more Rather Radio? No daily fix? Moonves should just suspend Dan Rather, period, until 11/3/04. Why?: Viacom Co-President, Less Monnves stated in a Goldman Sachs Media conference that the CBS external investigation into “Rathergate “ would probably not be concluded until after the Presidential Election because he did not want it to interfere with the Nov. 2 election, according to Reuters. Reuters quotes Moonves with, "Obviously, it should be done probably after the election is over so that it doesn't affect what's going on," Great, so Viacom/CBS is now on record as against any actions that might effect the Presidential Election. That said, as Dan Rather is currently under suspicion of attempting to effect said election with a baseless smear attack on President Bush, in order to prevent the impression of attempting to, or worse, actually effecting the election, I propose that Mr. Rather remove Are not policemen, another form of public watchdog, put on suspension while under investigation for serious actions? Moreover, Mr. Rather comes to this investigation with known dirty hands. Was he not slapped on the wrist by the Federal Elections Commission in 2000 for having violated election law regulations with his premature declaration of Al Gore the winner in Florida in that election – while the polls were still open in the Republican dominated counties of the FL panhandle, which, some argued, could have suppressed potential votes for Bush in a very tight state race? Was this perhaps an attempt by Dan Rather to “effect” that Presidential Election? Afterwards, before the FCC’s review of Rather’s improper and erroneous Florida election results proclamation, CBS promised to keep it’s hands clean. Here is Mr. Moonves’ chance to “more fully” honor that commitment. If Mr. Moonves is sincere about preventing any further faux pas(s) that might effect the election and the receding credibility of CBS/Viacom, as well, then he should place Dan Rather on hold from any further reporting for CBS, at least until after November 2. This “modest proposal” should be running on the Rathergate blogs as a respondent email form targeted to Viacom, CBS management/ shareholders, and the affils, from concerned viewers/voters (& pajama clad, partisan, political, operatives? – yea, well, it beats donning bunny ears!) What say, Moonves? Make the smart play now? Or wait and risk the afils making you and Dan - walk the plank? The Goat.
