Word (UPDATED)
Posted by Bill The scurrilous charge: "What I think is highly inappropriate is what's going on across the Internet, a kind of political jihad," Brokaw said during a panel on which he appeared with Rather and Jennings. "It is certainly an attempt to demonize CBS News, and it goes well beyond any factual information a lot of them has, the kind of demagoguery that is unleashed out there." The response: Michael Paranzino, founder of Web site BoycottCBS.com, wasted little time responding to Brokaw's statements. "Tom Brokaw reads the news, but does he understand it?" Paranzino said in a statement. "Jihad is not Americans demanding reforms from an arrogant and biased media. Jihad is Islamists mowing down children for sport, blowing up families at Tel Aviv cafes, and in case he forgot, terrorists sending jet airliners into the World Trade Center and Pentagon." He added: "We will not be cowed into silence by Mr. Brokaw's intemperate remarks." I think that I know who won that debate. Network ratings are down 28% over the last 10 years (even before Rathergate), and they still refuse to face the music.... A visual aid (via Journalism.org):
(Thanks to David) UPDATE: Boyd has something to say about all of this ... Posted by Bill at October 4, 2004 09:56 PM | TrackBack (0) CommentsBreaking news: Off topic Posted by: Geraldo at October 4, 2004 10:11 PM Boycott CBS had it right. Brokaw and jennings were just protecting their own in a dying Industry. We know how to do our own research, without the abc networks, and we don't need them to spoon feed us their Biased views without all the facts. Regards, Posted by: Sonar5 at October 4, 2004 10:30 PM Er your off topic Geraldo and you need to shave that flavor saver. Posted by: ctob at October 4, 2004 10:34 PM Off topic Posted by: Hunter at October 4, 2004 10:35 PM Brokaw has lost his freaking mind if he thinks that standing in CBS' corner...and then calling those who seek the truth jihadists, is going to score any points, with anyone other than the most devout of lunatics. Posted by: jmflynny at October 4, 2004 10:44 PM What I think is highly inappropriate is what's going on across the MSM, a kind of political jihad to bring down President Bush. Posted by: TallDave at October 4, 2004 10:46 PM Besides, we prefer the term Pajamahadeen... And if his staff had any credibility, he would have at least got that term correct.... Can's the alphabet networks get anything right... Sheesh... Maybe we'll see a redaction on tomorrow's show... Regards, Posted by: Sonar5 at October 4, 2004 10:48 PM These guys have never understood Rush Limbaugh's ( who is not a journalist ) massive success versus other liberal talk radios failure. Liberal talk radio fails because they can just watch CBS news. Conservative talk radio fluorished because conservatives wanted something even if it was biased toward them. FoxNews understands the vast niche of people who actually want fair news and I think they make a genuine toward being as fair as any reasonable person can expect. I'm not certain if FoxNews appreciate's the significance of internet media. But I know that most other networks won't have any clue about either bias or the internet until its way to late for them. They drank the Kool aid quite a while ago. I say within 5 years a whole lot of people will get significant amounts of news from sources other than the major national TV networks. And all the while they just won't get it. They just won't understand when some story they thought was silly or crazy is taken up by all sorts of people. They will dismiss stories against gun control as crazy because that is what they think etc. And one day they will wake up and see that people just aren't paying much attention to them anymore. They won't go away. They will eventually catch up again I would think. They have too much money not to. But they won't be the arbiters of what's a story anymore. This is a matter of years. Not months. Its been going on for years. This was the first big wake up call. It will take many more before they take off their asshats. Posted by: ctob at October 4, 2004 10:49 PM ...and the band played on as they slowly sank beneath the waves. Their ship has hit the iceberg and they don't even know it. Posted by: Pete at October 4, 2004 10:59 PM Brokaw's comment really is an attack on freedom of speech. Regardless of whether one agrees with the criticisms of Rather, it should be celebrated as the sign of a free society, not berated as some sort of "political jihad." Brokaw apparently is sad because people actually are thinking for themselves, instead of just accepting the dictates of the high priests of information. Posted by: Another Thought at October 4, 2004 11:20 PM I would also add that perhaps we need to boycott NBC News, and especially Brokaw. Let's subject him to some of this "political jihad." Posted by: Another Thought at October 4, 2004 11:21 PM Posted by: David [.net] at October 4, 2004 11:22 PM These folks just don't realize how irrelevent they truly are becoming. Some say Brokaw is retiring at the top... Well, now with a Population Growth, and the above charts, looks like he's retiring at the bottom of his career, in my opinion. And that I can agree with. Tom, Dan, and Peter, you no longer matter, as you all took whatever credibility you used to have and shoved it into only one political corner. Then you got noticed, and the masses spoke with their remotes. You lose, we win. Game. Set. & Match. Regards, Posted by: Sonar5 at October 4, 2004 11:43 PM Tom who? Posted by: Rich at October 5, 2004 12:04 AM Another Thought: I find your remarks about brokaw's statement paradoxical. How can a statement be an attack on free speech? If speech is free then whatever he says or you say is fair game. It is certainly an attack, but its not on free speech. Its an artack on sites like INDC and Powerline and LGF etc. It an attack to paint them in a certain light. It doesn't say "You may not talk!", instead its says "You are not to be listened to!".
Posted by: ctob at October 5, 2004 12:37 AM We are witnessing skirmishes, gathering into battles, and melding into a revolution against the elite who seek to rule us through their tight fisted control of information. And we are taking up arms (or pens, or keyboards) to join the fight. Should we be labeled “jihadists”? Possibly. “Patriots”? Yes. “Libertarians”? Most definitely. The lawyers they send to silence us will find their heads upon the pikes of the First Amendment. The Brokaws and the Rathers and their ilk should hope to find themselves so fortunate. (Note to said lawyers and future judges: this is all figurative. And I hate to have to add this note, but based on past displays of ignorance, I feel I have no choice.) Come and get me..... Arrggghhhh..... In his best Howard Dean Imitation. Posted by: Sonar5 at October 5, 2004 12:42 AM In the spirit of openess, I just posted the same comment I posted above over at Whizbang!. I hate to do that, but I just scrolled over there, read thier latest post, and it seemed so appropriate. Sorry. If you don't like that, I've got a space for your head on a pike too. ARRGGHH! Posted by: jmaster at October 5, 2004 12:59 AM Another skirmish in the war between the media elite and the rest of us. Here's my response to Nick Coleman, his rant in his column in the Star-Tribune was in the same vein. As of right now, no response from Nick. Posted by: Eric at October 5, 2004 01:50 AM Dan made a mistake, so what, we all do. But how come i havent heared any of you refer to the fact that someone flew the "Binladens" out of the country after the FAA put out a ban on flights. Posted by: markcus at October 5, 2004 06:21 AM Um, because Markcus, that was Richard Clarke ... you know, your "hero" for his "truth telling" a few months ago? We thought you knew about that ... Posted by: BD at October 5, 2004 08:20 AM I mean, jeez, markcus, do try to keep up.... Posted by: BD at October 5, 2004 08:20 AM Richard Clarke... Gotcha research is Your Friend.....
