Trying to Figure Out What's Going on in Iraq?

Posted by Bill

In order to get beyond the campaign rhetoric and dig deeper than the predetermined sensationalistic or defeatist narratives written by certain analysts for the major dailies, you should read blogs. I'm not going to excerpt it; read the whole thing.

UPDATE: And when you're done with that, read Gen. David H. Petraeus's column in today's WaPo.

This graf is interesting:

Two days before March 19, 2003, we saw quite a number of vehicles going into Syria. We could not go after them because we said we’d give Saddam 48 hours. A lot of (Iraqi) leaders went into Syria, and a lot of WMD went into Syria. We’ve gotten indications some went into Lebanon, and probably some went into Iran.

My intelligence source has been telling me the same for quite a while. But, he had an added detail. He claims that trucks coming out of the caches were traced to the foiled Amman attack. King Abdullah claimed that attack could have killed tens of thousands.

There is a very interesting story on Drudge where CBS is publically stating they are not running their WMD story because it might influence the elections. There are all sorts of stories that get spiked and there wasn't a press release about them. Maybe there is something positive for the President like what I mentioned above. This way they can negatively spin it without having to admit to contrary facts.

On a different account CBS was going to run a story about forged documents concerning Niger yellowcake before the National Guard story pre-empted it. If it does run, check to see if they admit that Martino admitted working for the French and the Italians are screaming that the French were trying to discredit the war effort.

In that vein, who was the blithering idiot I saw on Fox earlier today (just passing through and didn't have time to stop and watch) who was trying to claim that there was NO liberal bias in the "media" -- and to prove his point he cited BLOGS and the INTERNATIONAL MEDIA?

As if.

But do you have any response to Mary Mapes' charge that you're a "vile, verminous little bedbug"?

Good article, but not on the cutting edge of what's happening in Iraq.

The real deal on Iraq from LT Gen Petraeus today.

A reasoned, sober look at what may be the crunch point for the WOT. Cause to keep faith, I think. Lieutenant Colonel Powl Smith just likened Iraq to Guadalcanal where the Marines held on and the Japanese broke on them.

General Abizaid was on Meet the Press today and really let em have it. He pointed out that the MSM and their fixation on every time an insurgent passes gas is hurting the effort and he also hit em pretty hard for not reporting any of the good.
