Posted by Bill Some great analysis of Rathergate thus far. Comes complete with a handy DNC-CBS timeline. (Via IP) UPDATE: Jeff from Beautiful Atrocities tries to hunt down Lucy Ramirez, Bill Burkett's alleged source. I'm pretty sure that he may have just inadvertently assaulted some poor innocent Mexican woman, but as Dan Rather taught us, "journalists make mistakes." Posted by Bill at September 21, 2004 01:25 PM | TrackBack (0) CommentsI love it when John Kerry says that they had nothing to do with the memos. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/9/21/123950.shtml Posted by: Jim at September 21, 2004 02:02 PM Is there any doubt that the Kerry campaign was involved? We have on record now at least 2 high level operatives in the Kerry camp having contact with Burkett. That in itself is strange, given the already known reputation of Burkett as a nutcase and the fact that these two operatives are like all high level people: not exactly the easiest to contact. We know, as the blog link makes clear, that the CBS piece was perfectly timed with the Kerry/DNC attack on Bush's NG service record. And does anyone seriously believe that Burkett was considered by CBS to be an "unimpeachable source?" I don't think so...someone very high up in the Kerry camp had to be the one pushing this forward at CBS... Posted by: Another Thought at September 21, 2004 02:15 PM The real question at this point: will Rathergate become Kerrygate? If the shoe were on the other foot, so to speak, and this involved the Republicans, both the Dems and the media would be screaming bloody murder by now. Posted by: Another Thought at September 21, 2004 02:17 PM Has anyone wondered why everyond at CBS was so frantic to get their "expose" on the air by Sep 8? We've heard about the "process" being fast-tracked; we've heard about all manner of those vaunted "checks and balances" being circumvented. Why the rush to judgement? What was the hurry? Could CBS's haste have been due to foreknowledge of a planned Democratic Attack Ad on the same topic due to be aired on Sep 9? There are simply too many juxtapositions in time and contact for any remaining doubt about "possible" collusion between the Kerry Campaign/DNC and CBS. At least that's the way it seems to me. Posted by: mannie at September 21, 2004 03:09 PM The Prowler's early article takes on new relevance, now that the communications among Mapes, Lockhart, Clelland, Burkett, etc etc., are coming to light. http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=7096 LGF ran a technical string last night, the gist of which is that FOX's pdf files of the memos have an embedded February 6, 2004 date. Some specific version of software is needed to discern that, so be skeptical. If true, how did FOX get electronic adobe files of a document apparently (by its coding date) created/forged in early February? Let's speculate: -FOX pdf system calendaring is off; the CBS website version of the memos, with September date, is correct. -Some forger or middleman was dumb enough to send electronic versions to the media, complete with electronic fingerprints? -CBS cleansed its versions before posting? -The Republicans and FOX really are behind this, why else would they alone have February electronic copies? -The memos were forged by Burkett, in conjuction with his February salvo against Bush? Etc etc. *** Posted by: Winemaker at September 21, 2004 03:16 PM Ah yes, the Hunt For Lucy, can you not envision the next indie filmmakker wannabe creating such a documentary... And the sound track is a snap; all you'd need is a tuba, an accordian, and the occasional rim shot when focusing on the befuddled face of Rather as he realizes he's stepped in another pile of dog shit. Posted by: GunnyBob at September 21, 2004 03:20 PM Ah yes, and O.J.'s still looking for the person who REALLY killed his wife? We'll likely NEVER know who actually typed those "memos" but it's a safe bet the original idea came from the Texas Democratic Party machine back during the 2000 campaign for Al Gore. Hello! Does anybody remember Ben Barnes? Texas voters do. The guy had more moves than a sidewinder and it looks like he ain't lost much of anything 'cept mebbe some hair.... And the respect of his daughter. Posted by: mannie at September 21, 2004 06:01 PM I guess USA Today doesn't google -- they can't find Lucy Ramirez? I guess this one (#3 on google) would be too obvious... Oh look! from Texas, "diplomatic" and fundraising connections in local and federal politics... http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:X6ZuCZIlWOoJ:hinojosa.house.gov/news/speech.cfm%3Fid%3D198+Lucy+Ramirez&hl=en Posted by: Hauke at September 21, 2004 07:37 PM Lockhart's cover story doesn't hold water. CBS claims they couldn't get the documents unless Burkett talked with Lockhart. But, CBS already had the documents! September 2: CBS has documents according to Van Os in the New York Sun. September 4: Phone call between Lockhart and Burkett. See http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,132996,00.html Posted by: Rich at September 22, 2004 11:01 AM |
