Always Time to Beat This Horse

Michelle Malkin makes me smile with this song of lyrical beauty:

This episode is also a powerful rebuke of the MSM's Wonkette-ization of the blogosphere--which enabled Old Media types to take comfort in gossip blogger Ana Marie Cox's bosom and minimize blogging as a clownish fluffball enterprise. They'll still visit her site for an occasional fix of penis jokes and fabricated rumors, but she'll no longer be in their daily must-reads, where she has been replaced by bloggers of substance who don't need to go slumming to command deserved attention from newsrooms across the country.

Yes, there is a place for silly humor, I'm probably too hard on Ms. Cox and INDC itself engages in tons of ridiculous buffoonery ... parodies, cartoons, etc.

But Wonkette's breakthrough to acclaim isn't an accurate representation of the more serious merits of the blogosphere, and thus far, the MSM has ignored this concept with abandon and at its own peril. No more.

I also can't help myself in pointing out one of Ms. Cox's recent statements during a panel discussion at the 100th Meeting of the American Political Science Association:

"For a Revolution you need to leave the house."

Oh really?

UPDATE: I knew that the sentiment sounded familiar ...

You mentionned her name but not ours? Bitch!

Killer work on this story, Bill.

And this sentiment is dead-on, of course.

This is funny. Are people afraid to comment on this point because She Who Will Not Be Named is well-liked by some of the big traffic boys?

Remarkable. For all the discussion of the MSM's fear of attacking their own, we get the same in the blogosphere. All because a gossip columnist has big enough jugs to enthrall a few.

People are people, and they like to kiss ass.

Unfortunately, I was born with a muted genetic capability for kissing ass for personal gain (ok, that's a lie, but at least for blog traffic), and a robust affinity for making people angry with me.

Also, notice how many comments I got when I took out Oliver Willis, who is obviously an acceptable whipping boy.

True, both with the ass-kissing and the different reaction to Willis.

For what it's worth, I get a kick out your willingness to be open with your disagreements (religion, abortion, SWWNBN, etc). That's one reason I'm glad to see you gaining traffic, you're doing it with real reporting and a minimum of convenient stances and silences.

Hey thanks.

Why bother doing it the other way, really?
