No One's Contacted Her?
Posted by Bill Via reader Mike Sierra, I see that the ombudsman of the Globe mentions the following stories: Here is an attempt to sort out at least a few of the issues that have dominated the ombudsman mailbox in recent days. Story at issue: Wednesday's Page 1 story suggesting President Bush failed to meet his National Guard commitments. These issues have "dominated the ombudsman mailbox?" No e-mails about the Globe's verified misrepresentation of their interview with Dr. Philip Bouffard? Hmmm. Maybe you should send one: Christine Chinlund Remember, it's her job to deal with this sort of incompetence, and ombudsmen work off of feedback provided by readers. Drop her a line, and be civil and factual, without any rude wingnut ranting about "that there evil librul media!" Such tactics undermine what should be a non-partisan argument about misrepresenting a source. Posted by Bill at September 13, 2004 11:11 AM | TrackBack (1) CommentsActually, I've sent her three emails (one after each story) with excerpts and links from INDC Journal, Shape of Days and One Hand Clapping. I guess her email must be down. And her voicemail. Maybe the circulation department will be able to handle my subscription cancellation. Posted by: PL at September 13, 2004 11:20 AM Here's a question: couldn't someone just look for OTHER memos, not related to Bush, typed by the same guy during the same time frame, and compare them to the CBS docs? It seems unlikely that he'd have a special fancypants typewriter JUST for typing memos about George Bush. Posted by: dave at September 13, 2004 12:03 PM Maybe because I didn't write a nine word email stating - Yeah, that must be it. Posted by: looker at September 13, 2004 12:07 PM Please be polite but firm -- sensitive that she may still be evaluating these more recent allegations. For my part, I was willing to give them the benefit of a doubt about being duped by CBS News, but not about their interview with Mr. Bouffard. And I forgot to mention that a quick perusal of the Globe I retrieved from my driveway this morning revealed no other mention of the memo scandal, much less Bouffard. Posted by: Mike Sierrra at September 13, 2004 12:25 PM "I Believe Dan Rather"...ha! maybe that should be in the subject line....then in the body of the email say something like... Now that I got your attention..... Posted by: Becca at September 13, 2004 12:29 PM Dave, keep pounding that drum. I think that is the final nail in the coffin -- the fact that these "recycled" memos won't match what's already been in circulation from Bush's file, but how 'bout the other several hundred (or thousand) guards this Killian dealt with? prepare for snowstorm. Posted by: tee bee at September 13, 2004 02:02 PM I just sent her another e-mail, "polite but firm" pointing out that her response in the Globe today was to the wrong complaint. I don't know how everyone else complained about the Globe's coverage; but my complaint had nothing to do with their coverage of Kerry's service. Isn't that a straw man argument or something? I complained about their use of CBS's faulty information and about misquoting experts. They respond that they have been fair and balanced in their coverage, so I must be wrong? That does not make any sense. Posted by: Rick at September 13, 2004 02:28 PM |
