Blogs Credited (UPDATED)
Posted by Bill Powerline was credited for breaking the story by Jim Pinkerton on Fox News Watch. He used the terminology "blogosphere" and said that "MSM" was a "term of derision." Gotta love Pinkerton. Congrats Powerline! UPDATE: Powerline, INDC, LGF credited in the Washington Times: "It was like a 'perfect storm' that put us here," said Scott Johnson, the Minnesota-based lawyer behind www.powerlineblog.com, one of several Web sites that questioned CBS' claims through the kind of simple detective work once common to old-fashioned journalism. Mr. Johnson and fellow debunkers at indcjournal.com, littlegreenfootballs.com, cnsnews.com, freerepublic.com and the Weekly Standard analyzed the typeface from the memos to find they were contemporary in origin, proving them likely fakes. The news was picked up by the Drudge Report and talk radio — and a huge audience. "Perfect storm" is right. Posted by Bill at September 11, 2004 06:41 PM | TrackBack (0) CommentsYay! I'm thrilled to see bloggers get credit where credit is due! Posted by: Lornkanaga at September 11, 2004 08:01 PM Thanks to the Washington Times, I've discovered INDC. Where have you been all my life! Posted by: Lisa Larkins at September 11, 2004 08:03 PM Congrats! Now us bloggers should work toward replacing the MSM. Posted by: Nick at September 11, 2004 09:01 PM The Norwegian paper Aftenposten article linked to by Instapundit cites Little Green Footballs as a source, without mentioning that it is a blog. You can read my translation of the article if you are interested. Thanks for your work on this. The interview with Bouffard is invaluable. Posted by: Chuck Bearden at September 12, 2004 12:43 AM Bill, I've been wondering. CBS mentioned to "Hodges"? that these were handwritten, and there were other comments they made on Thurs or Fri, that leads me to be suspicious. I Wonder if they thought they should 'clean them up' a bit to make them more plausable. Maybe they figured that they couldn't get handwritten ones 'certified'. Just an idea. Posted by: Ron - WI at September 12, 2004 01:15 AM The MSM has got to be hating the internet and the blogosphere, as they are no longer free to make up the news as they see fit. This is really a test case: will it all blow over or will there actually be consequences to RAthER's incompetence and failure to come clean. The next few days/weeks will tell if the blogosphere has come of age and is able to take a spot as a true institutional check-and-balance. Great work guys! Posted by: Don at September 12, 2004 03:07 AM Pinkerton used the word "blogger" with a derisive inflection...it was as close to a verbal sneer as one could make. Pissed me off it did...smarmy bistid.
