EMERGENCY NY BLEG
Posted by Bill Unfortunately, my hotel in NY does not have high speed internet access, and I have only located one internet cafe in Penn Station that is only open until 7PM. Do any NY residents know where I might find some wireless access points (open late) in the area of the Garden? Starbucks, or what? Posted by Bill at August 27, 2004 03:15 PM | TrackBack (1) CommentsHave you tried www.wifimaps.com? Posted by: Sharp as a Marble at August 27, 2004 03:22 PM I live about 15 blocks from there. There are Starbucks on practically every corner in midtown Manhattan, and many are open very late (you need to pay them for T-Mobile access unless you have that already). There is a huge internet cafe just off Times Square (huge as in over 100 computers and not much cafe), very cheap. I believe it's on 42nd St between 7th and 8th Ave. You can also ask a cop, he'll probably know since so many tourists use it. Also google "wifi New York" or similar and you will find listings of wifi spots around town. Also this site lists wifi spots. Posted by: yehudit at August 27, 2004 03:24 PM Bill, I understand that if there's a Panera Bread anywhere in the vicinity you can get a WiFi connection. Glenn Reynolds has written about this a few times, as I recall, and he says it's not only reliable but also free. It might be worth an e-mail to him to check. Posted by: Jimmie at August 27, 2004 03:28 PM Any COSI cafe in NYC or McDonalds has WiFi. Also, try: http://www.hotspot-directory.com/site/index.php Posted by: PhilliesFan at August 27, 2004 03:55 PM "Bill, I understand that if there's a Panera Bread anywhere in the vicinity you can get a WiFi connection." No Paneras in NYC AKAIK. Cosi is nicer than Starbucks or McDonalds, has good food, and numerous locations. Posted by: Yehudit at August 27, 2004 05:05 PM Thanks all. Now I just have to figure out how this wireless feature works on my new laptop. Posted by: Bill from INDC at August 27, 2004 05:55 PM Try nycwireless.org. Also, Bryant Park (on 42nd Street and 6th Ave., adjoining the NYC Public Library) has free wireless. Areas around NYU should be good too. Posted by: Asparagirl at August 27, 2004 06:29 PM Hey Bill. There is a 24 hour internet cafe in Times Square on 42nd street. Also, Starbucks has free connection and they are on every other corner in Midtown. Posted by: Rob at August 27, 2004 10:55 PM Starbucks does NOT have free connection, unless they've changed something in the past 2 weeks -- you have to pay for a T-Mobile account. Bryant Park (off 42nd St between 5th and 6th) also has free Wi-Fi. Posted by: Katie at August 27, 2004 11:11 PM VerizonŽ has wireless access all around Manhattan. It is free for dial-up and DSL VerizonŽ subscribers. Check out http://verizon.com for the map of locations. Wishing you much success from the elephantsBus.com team.
