Friday PSA (Apropos of Nothing In Particular)

Posted by Bill

Just putting this out there.

UPDATE: Oh yeah, this is for them.

One of the first uses of the Sturmabteilung in Germany of the 1920's was to disrupt political events or speeches by opposing parties. I don't have my copy of "Rise and Fall" at hand, but Hitler said something about having to "protect" the people from hearing the other viewpoints.

UPDATE: And it's really, really, really targeted towards this guy.

I think Glenn Reynolds is either the most clueless law professor at the University of Tennessee or the kind of sick racist who doesn't have the balls to wear a Klan robe or burn a cross.
...
I mean, where does he keep this shirt, next to his Wehrmacht World Tour and Hitler: No More Mister Nice Guy shirts.
...
I think it's time we start asking people, like his boss, how his views and public statements coincide with the education provided by the University of Tennessee.

University of Tennessee Law School Dean -- can be reached here ...

For background, read this.

He then goes on to list a bunch of other contacts that presumably have authority over Reynolds' job. If you'd like to politely contact Steve Gilliard, the deranged author of this blog, his e-mail address is stevenewsblog@yahoo.com. No word on where Steve works yet, but I'm sure he'd love it if we exhorted you to call his boss. Cut it out, Steve; step back from the precipice.

We're supposed to fear for our jobs because histrionic bloggers may interpret a tongue-in-cheek t-shirt slogan as some paean to racism?

Fuck you, man. I can't think of a more civil way to put that. It's disgusting that this guy chooses to throw his efforts behind this pet cause ... unbelievable. And the thing that creeps me out whenever Reynolds is attacked is the fact that he is one of the most reasonable, laid-back partisans in the whole 'sphere. How can someone accuse Reynolds of being a wild-eyed wingnut or racist?

That reminds me....you and all your readers need to start making your advanced reservations for Parker and Stone's new movie "Team America: Global Police."

WARNING: Gratuitous link drop to follow, but it's on topic.

I have a review of the movie trailor HERE. But the gist of it is that the movie (paraphrasing a first class asshat blogger who will go unnamed)will be Kryptonite to Michael Moore's stupid.

Yeah, I linked it the other day ... I can't wait.

Re: "How can someone accuse Reynolds of being a wild-eyed wingnut or racist?"

Because lots of people are clueless and/or stupid. I've been reading and writing blogs for over two years, and this conclusion, in my mind, has only grown stronger.

Jeff, do you even read Instapundit? I'm fairly certain that Glenn Reynolds is just about the most even-tempered, reasonable blogger out there.

And calling Glenn's boss isn't going to do any good. Instapundit is no secret. Its been featured in numerous news articles both nationally and locally. I'm sure Glenn's boss already knows about the blog and has no objections to it otherwise Glenn would have been in trouble some time ago.

Not that he ever blogs about anything that should or would get him in trouble.

If leftists are looking for right-wing nut jobs to go after Reynolds isn't it. I mean, there are plenty out there who are very deserving of scorn from the left. Why not target one of them?

Rob, I believe Jeff was indicating that he has come to a stronger conclusion that there are more stupid people in the world, not that Reynolds is a racist ...

Doh, read that wrong. My apologies.

Call me crazy, but isn't using the word "negro," as Steve Gilliard does here, actually racist?

Oh, of course not -- that's right, he can say whatever he wants. We're all free, but some are more free than others.

Isn't it funny that the same people who decry Bush's "either your with us or with the terrorists" as too simplistic seem to practice the same "simplicity" on a daily bases.

But then, *almost* nothing the current Left does surprises me anymore. And that's a sad state of affairs.

Bill's take on my comments is the correct one - sorry if it wasn't clear. Instapundit is the king of centrist understatement.

It's because he's reasonable and laid back. That makes him effective and persuasive. If he were, say, Misha the Rottweiler (whom no one, including Misha, would ever mistake for the Sweet Voice of Reason), there'd be no need to attack him, because a rabid speaker won't persuade the not already persuaded.

Glenn is a danger; that's why he gets attacked in these terms.

Jaed -

Mix that with 4.2 million page views last month, and I think that you are on to something. I have tremendous respect for Reynolds as a media force for good.

Thanks so much for posting the stevegilliard link. I read that late in the day at work--good thing, too 'cause most everyone was gone and I was laughing quite a bit at the comments. The extremism was a hoot.
