You Know What?
Posted by Bill Often "they" are right. Sometimes conservatives really are a bunch of intolerant, longwinded, non-empathetic, judgmental gasbags that extrapolate personal emotional instinct to larger issues that deserve greater rational analysis and a heaping helping of Realpolitik. There is no partisan monopoly on these traits. UPDATE: Here's a piece of advice: there are very few absolutes in this world. Start with that. UPDATE: Not talking about Tim Worstall. See 7th comment. Posted by Bill at August 4, 2004 11:55 AM | TrackBack (0) CommentsI'm not sure what brought you to this revelation, but Hallelujah! Can I get a Amen, brothah!? It won't be long before you're denouncing the evils of corporatism and condemning globalization as a nefarious imperialist plot! I can't wait! P.S. Now imagine trying to deal with said containers of malodorous vapor from the opposite side on almost every issue rather than just a few, and you'll understand what sends people like Michael Moore off the deep end. P.P.S. Not that I'm saying Michael Moore is any easier for your side to deal with, or that wingnuttery is the only reason for his views. Actually, I wonder which came first, Moore or wingnuts... I guess it's one of those chicken-and-the-egg arguments. P.P.P.S. I have nothing against chickens or eggs. In fact, I'm very fond of eggs. The eggs are not the issue here, Dude. P.P.P.P.S. Now that I think about it, conservative rigidity did come first, by definition... that's what "conservative" means. That means conservatives really are responsible for Michael Moore. Which means... oh my God! Moore is a right-wing plot to discredit the left and make a ton of cash at the same time! In fact, his movie was probably secretly financed by Rush Limbaugh himself. We have to get this out! Viva la revolución! Posted by: Walter Sobchak at August 4, 2004 05:31 PM Walter - Whoa, whoa, whoa partner. Before you have to change your drawers: This is NOT a "revelation." I was annoyed by social conservatives long before I learned what dumbasses many liberals are ... I believe in REALISM ... and IDEALISM when realism permits. South Park republican, here. The point of the post is, intolerance is a universal human trait. Liberals are often just as intolerant in their quest for tolerance, which carries its own head-spinning implications ... DO NOT SULLY MY POST BY JUSTIFYING MICHAEL MOORE'S BEHAVIOR. In my view of the world, conservatives are far less ubiquitously annoying than liberals at this juncture in history. Posted by: Bill from INDC at August 4, 2004 05:47 PM Don't get your ideology in a bunch, I was just kidding. I wasn't even really justifying Moore, it was just part of the whole thought-thread about it being a right-wing conspiracy. He who laughs at himself lives longest... Posted by: Walter Sobchak at August 4, 2004 06:45 PM It helps if you realize that at least half of everything I type is not completely serious. Posted by: Bill from INDC at August 4, 2004 07:23 PM OK... and almost nothing I said in response was even remotely serious, so I guess we're even. By the way, that yearbook thing was hilarious. I got the co-worker bobbing heads effect at "PS - Abortion is a modern holocaust". Not that that's a funny topic, but in context... Posted by: Walter Sobchak at August 4, 2004 08:02 PM Saw this and thought, hey...then looked again. As someone in favour of or indifferent to gay marriage, gay adoption, polygamy, living in sin (does anyone other than Pat Robertson actually still say that?)any other sexual practices that may occur between consenting adults, drugs should have been legalised yesterday, and so on down the either liberal or libertarian (your choice) wish list I realised that of course you weren't talking about me. Longwinded, yes, intolerant, often, judgemental and many other things no doubt. But conservative, no. Posted by: Tim Worstall at August 5, 2004 11:22 AM No, Tim, not you. (see update) You are a particularly thoughtful pundit. I stumbled across a post and discussion thread on another blog that turned my stomach with profanity ... had to blow off some steam. Posted by: Bill from INDC Journal at August 5, 2004 11:31 AM OK, OK.... Thoughtful? I must be off to polish my ego. Posted by: Tim Worstall at August 5, 2004 01:44 PM |
