Sorry to Point This Out, John
Posted by Bill But has anyone else noticed that Right Wing News's list of the "top 25 funniest movies of all-time" includes a film by Michael Moore? And merely two posts away, he's laying into Michael Moore?* * Which is a fantastic thing, mind you. I was just wondering if he was aware of the origin of his 10th funniest film of all time.**
(Via the Llamas) Posted by Bill at June 19, 2004 12:57 PM | TrackBack (1) CommentsHey, a good film is a good film, even if Michael Moore wrote it. Posted by: John Hawkins at June 19, 2004 01:16 PM Whatever floats your boat, dude. (Alan Alda?) :-) Posted by: Bill from INDC at June 19, 2004 02:22 PM And... Tommy Boy? To each his own, I guess. Personally, I would like to see Grosse Pointe Blank and Raising Arizona on the list somewhere. Posted by: Watcher at June 19, 2004 03:16 PM Canadian Bacon was awful. Posted by: Flea at June 19, 2004 04:12 PM And where is This is Spinal Tap? Scandalous. I'm starting to think that John may be Canadian. Posted by: Bill from INDC at June 19, 2004 05:50 PM Two more that I would like to see make the list: The Princess Bride and The 'burbs. Posted by: Watcher at June 19, 2004 05:57 PM "I'm starting to think that John may be Canadian." Oooh, that's a low blow -- especially coming for a guy who probably listens to Barbra Streisand while he blogs =D (how ya like them apples?) And Alan Alda? If Jimmy Carter could be President, why not Alan Alda? =D Posted by: John Hawkins at June 19, 2004 08:54 PM Leave babs out of this ...
Posted by: Bill from INDC at June 19, 2004 09:35 PM 15 second review: Excellent cast (Ackroyd, Candy, Jim Belushi, Rhea Perlman, Kevin Pollack and Steven Wright) marred by sloppy direction, amateurish camera work and a mish-mash of a plot. Alda's "type" fits well to the wishy-washy, empty-headed liberal President. High point is the (last ever) Ackroyd - Candy scene wherein Candy, driving a stolen truck laden with anti-Canadian graffiti is ordered by Ackroyd (as a Canadian mountie) to spray-paint the slogans in French in order to comply with the two-language rule. One can surmise that allot of the comedy was coming from the talent and not the big guy behind the camera. It was one of Candy's last films. In some ways, this is more a SCTV/SNL movie than a Michael Moore movie. "Wag the Dog" later made the movie Moore tried to make. Posted by: Jim H at June 20, 2004 10:28 AM Yes, actually, that scene was pretty damn funny ... Posted by: Bill from INDC at June 20, 2004 08:17 PM Jim H, Actually, Ackroyd was not plaing a Mountie, but an OPP (Ontario Provinical Police) officer. And that scene was just ripped off from The Life of Brian anyway. Moore's fascincation with my country is more than a little off-putting. Posted by: Dave at June 21, 2004 09:16 AM |
