Ronald Reagan Procession Coverage On Deck

I need to recover from the case of near-heatstroke that I developed after snapping pictures of the casket being loaded, followed immediately by sprinting 20 blocks to make it towards the Capitol in time for the 21-gun salute and F-15 flyover. This was of course punctuated by climbing every available trash can, light pole and staircase possible in order to perhaps catch a snap of the action; the crowds along the route were often 15 people deep. As a result, some of the pics are not up to the standard of my usual work. My preemptive apologies.

I was hoping you covered the event, Bill. I watched C-SPAN's coverage on their web site last night; they followed the casket from the Library to the NAS and onto the plane, and then from the plane at Andrews to Constitution, and then all the way up to the Capitol. It was wrenching and solemn. And because it was C-SPAN, without all the yack yack yack, I heard the guy in the crowd call out "God bless you, Nancy" after the casket was placed on the caisson. Incredibly powerful.

Anyway, looking forward to your coverage.

Dont get too excited - I couldn't get quality snaps of Reagan or the procession. Too crowded.

You gonna be around on Friday? A couple friends and I will be up there, trying to be a part of it all.

I have plans, but i'll be in DC. Not much to be "part of," I'm afraid. Besides the viewing (not sure when that ends) they memorial service is closed to the public ... I'm not even certain if there is another horse-drawn procession.

I have pictures at my blog too! But none are as stunning as the beautiful picture of the gun firing that's posted here.

Although I think my humble photo essay does a good job of showing what it was REALLY like to be there.

I went up there today. I work at a facility that will be closed tomorrow, but as a contractor, I'll have to put in the hours anyhow ( :-/ ). The wait was about 3.5 hours when I went through - I was the last person in before the changing of the guard so I got a little more time to reflect than those who were just being cycled through. I was fine until I started climbing the steps, then once the honor guard started marching out, I teared up. I'm glad I went, though.

I was a little miffed at some of the vibe from the crowd - all the T-shirts and flip flops, I thought were a little bit inappropriate. This isn't woodstock, people.

Oh, and I did get into a great conversation with the former communications director for Dick Armey, who works over at Heritage now.

I went through this evening. The wait for me was only three hours, and it wasn't as hot this evening as it was yesterday.

I was actually five or six people behind Ann Coulter, and was she ever popular in that crowd. She was very friendly, and was signing autographs and letting people take pictures of her the whole time. I overheard her say that she wasn't used to getting so much positive attention when she went out in public.
