Things That Make You Nervous INDC
Posted by Bill
I ran across a battery of firetrucks and "hazardous devices units" on the corner of F and 12th, NW at 3:15. This is the very center of downtown, above the Metro Center subway station.
Suspicious packages were found on the first floor of the building on the left. The police closed down the block and are refusing to let anyone in or out of the building. The HazMat units and the fact that they haven't evacuated would indicate that they suspect biological materials.
Man. Florida is looking like a good idea right now ... UPDATE: It's the next day and the world has not ended. I have also not been able to find any reports of this at the WaPo or on the news. How often does this stuff go on without getting noticed? Did anyone hear about this? ANOTHER UPDATE: Nothing to see here, just a scare. Posted by Bill at May 6, 2004 03:48 PM | TrackBack (1) Commentsanywhere but dc looks good when you tak about potential terror targets. i'm looking at san antonio..... Posted by: mlah at May 6, 2004 04:04 PM Gee THANKS, Bill! Here I am wrapped up in oblivion in my safe little cubicle at E & 11th when you go and shatter my false sense of peace! Posted by: Robert the Llama Butcher at May 6, 2004 04:27 PM Was wondering if that was you in the window ... Posted by: Bill from INDC at May 6, 2004 04:31 PM You think if I worked for Arnold & Porter I'd have time to look out the window (much less blog)? Posted by: Robert the Llama Butcher at May 6, 2004 04:45 PM Oh, I'm sure the A&P guys have some time to goof off, especially when they are contemplating the possibility of impending bio death. They throw a mean Friday afternoon roof deck party for their employees, I can tell you ... free top shelf liquor and pizza! Posted by: Bill from INDC at May 6, 2004 04:58 PM Bill, that's why I moved south. So far, so good. No planes have crashed into my new workplace (yet). I have to say that certain other things keep DC very attractive, though. Like occasionally being bored out of my mind, and the fact that the only decent shopping here is...Target. Wah. Posted by: maura at May 6, 2004 08:31 PM A thought - might've been a drill? Please, keep us posted if you hear anything. I'm on a strict diet of Discovery Channel TV lately, so you're my only local news. Posted by: maura at May 6, 2004 08:32 PM Channel 4 said something on yesterday afternoon/evening's newscasts about finding some unidentified powder (the details are shaky, I honestly wasn't paying very close attention), but testing showed it wasn't harmful. It was just a scare that was disproved. Posted by: Boyd at May 7, 2004 08:05 AM Thanks! Posted by: Bill from INDC Journal at May 7, 2004 09:00 AM Glad I'm working out in Reston.
